How frequently do you buy new guitars?
I rarely buy guitars new. The last one I bought new was 6 years ago.
I find the used prices much more palatable and I can get a similar amount of money back if I choose to sell them.
I'm more likely to buy electronic musical equipment (keyboards, digital effects) new to benefit from the warranty. Guitars rarely go catastrophically wrong unlike digital equipment which are impossible to fix!
Never. I only play vintage original.
4 new ones in 10 years. I have kept 3 of them. Have room for one more now and hmmm a shoreline/aztec gold jazzmaster???
yup make that 5 guitars in 10 years
I bought a CSL Les Paul Standard in 1976 with my second university grant cheque from a shop in Sheffield (sold to my bass player in 1995), in 2001 I bought a Yamaha LL-11e which I still have. Otherwise I have bought 50-60 used guitars over the years, almost all of them since 2003.
I currently have 14 guitars...5 were bought used, 1 a demo, and 1 a b-stock. But I'm a sale shopper...4 were SDOD. None are expensive or vintage.
Because I buy many guitars that are new to me (then mod, sell or trade them when I'm itching for a new new to me toy) I never buy new new guitars. I have never kept a new guitar & for me it's just wasted money.
Since 1982, out of 8 guitars 4 of them were used (if you count a partscaster as used).
The last 5 were bought within the last 5-6 years though and I'm debating buying a new Jaguar Player to make into a 'Jagsquier' as I'm really into the single pickup thing.
I only buy guitars when I come across them by chance. It is extremely rare that I go out looking for something specific. Poisons the process.
My last new acoustic guitar (Taylor 414ce-R) was purchased in 2018. My last new electric guitar (Gibson Les Paul Traditional) was purchased in 2016.
I’m very happy with my current herd and don’t see myself buying any more guitars. Besides that, I’m retired now and don’t have the funds to play with like I did when I was working.
One in 1969, one this year.
Bought my first new guitar ever this year. 2019 Les Paul standard 60s. Even then I traded a 2nd hand Classic plus cash for it...does that count?
I very rarely buy new, unless it is something really special & unique.
The only two 'new' guitars I have purchased in many years are a 1 piece Mango body Explorer & a Jeff Beck oxblood type in a gold top finish. Both very unique & both quite rare.
Whenever satan gets the better of me. Quite a lot.
I don't buy guitars. I buy stuff that turns into guitars, typically once or twice a year.
(new to me, that is)
Never. I have 4 electrics that I am very happy with, and I’m set. If I ever wanted another one, I would get it used.
I seem to buy/try new-to-me guitars two or three times a year.
Not all of them “stick”.
I seldom buy new. Did buy a new Zemaitis a few months ago, and don't regret at all, but I typically buy used, and usually only in person (I don't trust that I will fall in love guitar long distance.... I've got to feel it, play it, hear it etc so pretty much in person for me. Though I did buy the new Zemaitis site unseen and am very pleased!)
There was a period about 10 years ago when I was buying, trading and selling frequently. It was probably 4 guitars a year. Then I Slowed new acquisitions before selling a bunch and trimming down to about 10 guitars. In the past few years I’ve bought about one each year but sold a few so I’m down to 8.
I will like make one more purchase before shutting it down and likely selling a couple more.
