I end my day, after all chores and commitments are completed, with a double on the rocks. Cheap Canadian, in a big plastic bottle. Whatever was on sale. It helps me sleep. In fact, I sometimes fall asleep in my big, comfy chair before I finish.

To answer your question: I doubt there's been a comparative study done of it. Maybe country song writers just drink a lot of whiskey, so whiskey gets the love. Write what you know.

To answer the question you didn't ask but we're all compelled to answer anyway:

My usual nightcap: Jim Beam bourbon.
On hand for emergencies (e.g. no Jim Beam): Bulleit rye.
    Apres pub gigs: Bulleit bourbon.
    When I had a rich girlfriend: McCallan's 18-year-old scotch.
    Holiday season: Jameson's Irish.
Mixers: Jim Beam bourbon, Tanquerey gin, Stoli vodka, Dolin vermouth.
Beer: Maine-made ales or Smuttynose IPA.
Wine: cabs and Malbecs, other hearty reds.
Happiest whiskey memories: Old Granddad 100-proof bourbon.

As guitar players, we should be asking “what would Keith Richards do?”

The Crown Royal Distillery is just 45 minutes to the north of where I live... it's one of our provinces biggest exports.
I prefer a shot of JD, or some Kentucky Bourbon, but most of my friends prefer a Canadian Rye or Scotch.

Truth be told... "I like Beer" (credit: Tom. T. Hall :))

I only drink whisky when I have to be around the inlaws for the holidays ...so it's time to go shopping. Tennessee Whiskey for me.

    None.
    It makes you stupider.
A little makes you a little stupider and a lot makes you a lot stupider.
I cannot afford to be any stupider.
    You probably can't either

True....but if you drink enough brandy, you don't care if your little wienie is roasted. Uh...you know what I mean. ;)

I have several drams a week. Usually two a day, on and off, five days a week. Usually Auchentoshan Three Wood, Lagavuilin 16...anything peaty. But that's in the pub. Thankfully, I stopped drinking at home in January as it was getting out of hand .

I'm on da beer. But I'll pick up a pint of Jim Beam if I'm camping off the motorbike. Less bulky. I like it with a little water.

I know there are better bourbons, but I'm no aficionado, so they'd be wasted on me anyway.

Never treid much Irish up to now, but last week someone poured me a glass of Teeling - Small Batch, a very reasonably priced Whiskey that is VERY drinkable.... I will now definitely go on to try out more of their range.

Hangovers and toddlers don't work well for me. Maybe I'll try being miserable 80% of my day once the kids move out, or maybe I'll skip it in favor of playing guitar or just being useful.

If I had time I'd study this. But certainly you don't see hard edge cowboys or outlaws stepping in the bars asking for the top shelf stuff.

It takes on a mystique almost.

I think Irish music has some of those other brands you all reference.

I went to the Jack Daniels tour and it seems to me like half the operation is a marketing whirlwind

I know modern country singers drink Patron. Because it gets name dropped.

I take umbarge at the spelling of Whiskey. It's not the proper spelling for a great single malt that is consumed in serial 1 0z portions until you fall asleep.

However is we are talking about Uncle Pappy then his concoction is consumed in 2 OZ portions because everything is bigger in America!

None anymore. But way back when I'd open a liter of Jim Beam and just toss the cap. It wasn't going to serve any purpose after that
