Depending on your tastes you could try:

    Jesca Hoop

    Tankus the Henge

Manchester had some great bands come out early 2000s
    I Am Kloot

    Doves

Badly Drawn Boy (possibly my favourite melody of the past two decades)

Hey, that’s a good one; here’s one of my favorites from Spoon.

I’m not a Lone Star native, so not particularly inclined to regional representation. But where’s your excuse, Keystone State Pretzel Boy? What you got from PA?

A few methods keep me out of the same old stuff trap.

    1. I listen to the robot-generated new music playlist Apple Gives me every Friday, save tracks I like to playlists I go back to, and pursue those and similar artists.
    2. NPR's web site publishes the tracks and artists in segues. I copy those I find interesting into Apple Music and search.
    3. I ask Siri to name the tune if something interests me. When Apple Store moved to same complex we have our HQ and a store the public Bose speakers all over started playing more interesting stuff. I get some looks if I ask Siri and aim the phone up to one of those speakers.

It's really funny when my kids' playlists have stuff from my growing up.

You're welcome, if I can give them a new fan then it's a job well done.

Natural History, Lost Souls and Hour of the Bewilderbeast are great albums.

Jason Isbell, jim campilongo, Norah Jones, Wilco, Kacey Musgraves, Sturgill Simpson, Bill Frisell for jazz, Tedeschi Trucks band, John Mellencamp and some others I guess but not a lot really. Not a lot out there that will make you sit up and say “whoa” that is great and original compared to stuff from 50s through the 70s. Those were some fertile times for great and innovative music. Everything from jazz, pop, soul, rock, roots, etc. and the memorable melodies from those bygone days, that is what seems to be missing the most. Not sure why. I know I am old and perhaps stuck in the past but it sure seems like since the 80s there hasn’t been much that has piqued my interest. Hip hop, rap, electronic, sampling, etc., NOPE.

Don't know if this has been posted, but many colleges have their own FM stations and live stream, and I've heard lots of good new music on them. But I still look for most of my new music on B-sides of the older guys/ladies. As much as I've always been into many types of music, I still missed a lot of great old stuff, and some of those guys are still cranking out originals.

Anna Tivel's writing is so good. Great voice too. Her album "The Question" is beautifully recorded--sounds great in headphones. It's been the record I listen to most this year.
