I say "y'all". I was raised in Florida. My wife says "you'ns", she was raised in western North Carolina. My mother tried on "you'ns" for a while but it just didn't fit. Kinda like wearin' clown shoes to church.

Funny thing, my spell check has no problem with y'all but can't abide by you'ns.

I'm originally from Arizona but have lived in Colorado, New York, Oklahoma, Texas, and now California. Of course I heard it a ton while I was in TX, but surprisingly enough, I hear it in CA enough that it's second only to TX.

Ye-unto go get sum food? Wier gowin. R-y'all cumin? (not spoken slowly)

I was very blessed to have been born & raised in Dallas, TX. Folks hear me tawk like dat and instantly know I am from Texas. No matter where I am in the world, I automatically get a smile and respect once they realize I am from Dallas.

    Strange, but true.

Yep, guilty, though I don't consider my use particularly obnoxious or awkward. I'm a transplant from the lower midwest, and while I recognize its deviations from proper English, Southern is a really neat dialect. Certainly sweeter on the ears than a great many accents and diction.

I was raised in GA, I'll pull out a "ya'll" every once in a while, especially when I want to sound genial. Usually I just say "you" since it is a plural pronoun. Usually I will speak carefully when addressing multiple people so it will not be ambiguous -- "Hey guys, do you want to order pizza?"

Of course, around good friends I will purposefully slip into a drawl, "Hey, how ya'll been?" because it is good fun.

"Youse guys" and "youse" and "yinz" are intolerable, but I have to deal w/ it in South Philly. Do youse needs some moah wooder?

I don't think I've even let out one non-ironic "y'all" in my entire life. But I do remember some other people from where I grew up saying it. I grew up in southern Maryland.

    Wait

    Why is Roanoke "Southwestern Virginia"?

Shouldn't that be reserved for Wytheville and Abingdon, Marion and so forth?

    Maybe Covington?

    Just wonderin'. :)
