My Wife and I are retired empty nesters. The tree is at our Daughters house. We did our bit and that's how it should be.

    Greetings from Sunny New Jersey
I'm a little "Bah, humbug" about the various rituals that are important to others at this time of the year. I could do without most of it. Except, of course, seeing our loved ones. That will always be treasured by me.

But the tree... man, oh man. That's something I really don't care for. Seems like a waste - have someone cut down a wee tree for us, only to throw it out to the curb on the 27th. So I've been tryin'ta plant a particular seed in my wife's head... but it just doesn't seem to take root.

When I was a boy, my family would visit a family a few blocks over to celebrate the season. I always thought they were pretty cool - they had 3 boys, quite a few years older than me, and they did all the cool things that hip guys in the late '60s would do. Cars, girls, rock and roll and Rat Fink stickers - you know, COOL.

The family also had a thoroughly modern SPARKLY WHITE Xmas tree with a COLOR WHEEL!!!

I would sit in their living room and watch it in awe for what seemed like hours. It was BEAUTIFUL!

I want one. Now. In my life. A (not modern, at this point) SPARKLY WHITE Xmas tree with a COLOR WHEEL. I want to watch the four colors slowly play over the glitter encrusted white plastic needles of my "forever" tree.

Wife's not buying it. Going to the Home Depot tomorrow to get a scrawny little collection of twigs.

A man can still dream, though...

Nah, they're tiny. Only needed a step stool to put them in the built-in shelf above the TV. ;)

Oh...my.... that’s the strangest pine tree I’ve ever seen

A bit skimpy on the branches eh

I don’t know if it needs help or to just be put out of its misery

We've had two up- one at a time. Went into the attic to bring down the 7' tree, unboxed it and found the base missing. Packed that one back up to the attic, and brought down a 3 footer that we put on a table, decorated it with both cats circling it, eyeing it ominously. Sure enough, when we woke the next morning, the little tree was laying on the floor, with the angel on top broken. Picked up the pieces and packed it up. About this time Mama decided we'd just do without, but there was the base of the big tree peeking out around the corner of a box close to where the trees resided there in the attic, so I brought the big tree back down, we set it up, and, with the help of a strong squirt gun, we've had no more untoward incidents. Merry Christmas, y'all!

Weird year. We 'bout always have a tree by now, but nothing this year. I might plug in a wad of lights from the garage out on the porch and let it go at that.

Might not get any shopping done this year either, but Merry Christmas to all.

I find myself unexpectedly disturbed by the idea of having more than one Christmas tree up...I mean, one is the center of a traditional ritual with roots all the way back into pre-Christian times, and the other is...decoration.

One of my sons lives in a 3 story 1890’s Victorian house with four fireplaces. They really do Christmas big time. He said that this year they did cut back a bit and only have 15 trees in the house this year. Now their yard is a whole ‘nother story!

    Just amazing!

Wife and I just have three, one upstairs in my music, TV, recording and computer area and one in the living room and one small one in the kitchen.

First world consumers gone amuck. One tree is enough.

I use one of these on my weed whacker to cut about 100 Xmas size trees on our property annually: IMG_4814.JPG

Most of the trees here are on the outside . Apple trees . I do have my authentic Charlie Brown Christmas Tree with 1 red ball . Oh yeah , there is the one placed by the decorator and the small white ceramic tree that was made by my Aunt June .

    Yes! Fuel for my imagination!

I like to believe you live in a compound that’s powered by lizards running on wheels connected to a generator

Now I imagine you riding around in 4 wheel drive over boulders slaying trees

Do you have the two handed handlebar on your whacker?
