I have 6 suits left I never wear, and 2 doz ties I can't bring myself to part with. After giving a few dozen to good will.

When my grandfather passed away, I found 3 ties in his closet. All black. One thick, one thin and one in the middle. Always in style regardless of what the current style was!

I have 7, and that's 7 too many or me. The last time I wore one of them was in Jan of 2022 at my niece's wedding. I really hope that was the last time.

2. One for funerals and one for weddings.
That's literally correct for me too.
I have probably a dozen ties hanging in the closet but never use them anymore. I never needed them for work. In fact, I don't know how I ever got so many.

I still have a few. I wore them a lot, used to have many more than that.

I’ve only worn them recently when asked to play funerals. It is a sobering when I think of how many of those I have done.

I used to do a mean double Windsor knot that a friend taught me with a perfect dimple technique. I complimented him on his knot one day, he took it off right there and showed me how he got it to look so good with that dimple under the knot. He gave me a bunch of his ties and a tie-bar right before he unexpectedly died at a fairly young age.

I also wore them onstage. I could ruin a great tie quicker than anyone I’ve ever met.

I went through my ties and gave away a bunch several years ago when I stopped playing professionally. I kept a black Navy tie a friend who was on nuclear submarines gave me. It was thinner. I have a couple black ones, a couple blue ones, a couple of earth tones, very subdued. One or two are eye-catchers, I just keep around for a lot of memories.

One skinny black tie for our Blues brothers tribute. We play rock and blues most of the night and the last 2 sets we do the Blues Brothers tribute. People still dig it.

None, they all went to Goodwill upon retirement. I have kept one pair of khaki pants and a nice Hawaiian shirt for formal wear. No doubt they'll go next trip to Goodwill.

There's no formality left in me. Nobody who's funeral would require dressing up is left.

I had some great ties though. I had a clear plastic one filled with water, gravel, some plastic aquatic plants and a fake goldfish. My boss at the time was livid...he absolved me from a meeting with the customer but I saw them in the hallway. The customer stopped me and commented "best tie ever!" My boss never said a word about it after that.

I count an even two dozen. Here’s a few from an old pic. The guitar and kanji (?) ones were gifts I don’t like and don’t wear, I favor flowers/paisley and bright or stereotypically “feminine” colors. Haven’t worn one to work since late ‘21, but I don’t mind it.

I guess I need to report since I started this. I counted 36 plus one pair of paisley suspenders, the real ones with button hole fasteners. That suit is long gone. I'm down to one I don't expect to wear ever again. A blue blazer will suffice for anything going forward.
