You can never have too much money, too much real estate, too much ammo... or too many guitars. That said, animal hoarders creep me out.

I think George Carlin said, "A house is just a box for your stuff." The box limits the stuff.

We all have more than one (and some are building another). As long as you get different sounds out of each one and can use them, why not? As long you don't neglect your kids/wife/dog, have fun.

    GUITARS:
    CV telecaster (modded of course)
    Epiphone acoustic

    BASSES:
    Schecter stiletto deluxe-4
    Chinese import plywood upright

Those are all out of my current arsenal and are needs/ the only ones that get play time outside of the house.

    LOL

As for the guitars, I have some but I seem to want one more every time I see them...
First I would just make up an excuse for myself of why I needed it (one more guitar I mean).
Later I realised not only I enjoy playing them, but I also find them incredibly beautiful "objects", so I suppose that if I ever get rich thats what I'll be collecting.
    :D

    As i expected

When i posted images of my humble collection, i knew that would start other members to show images of their collections too. That is absolutely correct response, considering the idea for this thread.

RBscrim, you did beat mine, you have MIA Fenders, Gibsons and Martins, while i have some humbler but i think still good brands in my heap!:D
But it is as i was expecting somebody would.;)
Btw, i am a big Beach Boys fan also since 1965!:p

I don't really need more than I have 2 Tele's 2 Strats, 2 Semi Hollow body HB guitars, a LP an acoustic and P bass but I'd like a baritone, a 12 string, a better mandolin, a good banjo, and several more acoustic guitars.

I would also think on the strats and teles, you need maple fingerboard and rosewood....add two....:)

Hmm, this is always an interesting question. I already have all the guitars I want/need.

    A tele,
    A regular acoustic,
A Godin 5th Ave with a DeArmond pickup (cause my wife loves it),
A 12 string (cause my wife loves this one too),
    A bass, and
A mandolin (a gift from my wife).

That total is six. I'm just noticing that 3 of the 6 are influenced by the fact that my wife digs 'em. But she's just the greatest woman I've ever met, she loves listening to me play (unlike my ex-wife) and I love playing for her; it's one of the great pleasures in life.

The tagline to all this is that I have more guitars than those above but I am slowly but surely selling them.

How many do I REALLY NEED?

Several more than I already have, and I just bought another one yesterday...
that makes 6 electrics and 2 basses, plus 2 acoustics.

    As many as you want!
My husband and I own 21 electric guitars, 6 basses, and 3 acoustics
That's 30 total and we are always looking for more to round out the collection.

Tele, les paul, junior, gretsch hollowbody, strat ... at the very least to get several different sounds available

altho it's quite possible my wife would say "just one... he sounds the same on all of them"

Need: four. One electric six string, one acoustic six string, one electric 12 string and one bass.

Want? I'm a sick puppy in that regard. I'm like the Sarah Winchester (see "Winchester Mansion") of guitar assembling. I can't stop putting new ones together!

    Have: plenty.

2 electric 6-string guitars ( Telecaster and Les Paul )
    12-string acoustic
    6 string acoustic
    6 string nylon acoustic
    1 Banjo

If it were just one guitar i could take my telecaster for picking too .

In the end all you need is a tele .

A good solid body; a good jazz archtop with a pickup; a good flat top acoustic with a pickup, if only one, probably a dreadnaught. I do have more than I need.
