Since I joined, my guitar count has gone up 50%, and I have doubled my amps.

To be fair; I had a Strat and an acoustic, and I added a Tele. 50% increase.

I had one amp, and I got a new one. 100% increase. I have not moved the old, near dead amp on yet.

This wonderful community definitely enables, exacerbates, and encourages my GAS.
I can’t let the rest of y’all have all the fun!
I keep my, uh, keepers, but I enjoy auditioning and evaluating new and different guitars.
Is 11 guitars and 1 bass too many?

It was 8 or 9 guitars before I joined.

    25 or 26 after I joined 3 years ago.

Doubled in amps from 3 to 6.

Before, about 12; now, about 6. Having more guitars did not result in me playing the guitar more. Having guitar hanger hooks in multiple rooms of the house put more of my existing guitars within arm's reach, which DID result in me playing the guitar more.

I think when I bought my Tele in May 2016 that took me up to 4 electric guitars — joining my Line 6 Variax 600, PRS SE245 and Squier Strat. (I had an Epiphone LP100 for a while but I think it had already left by then.) In addition to those I had a Squier P-bass and 3 acoustics (nylon & steel string 6s and a 12). I joined TDPRI almost right away.

Since then I’ve bought 3 more guitars — all in 2018! — and an amp in 2017 but a couple have gone. The Variax was sold, the Strat is now my daughter’s, and the P-Bass spends termtime away at Uni with my younger son. I’ve added a no-brand Lap Steel, a Shergold Masquerader SM-03SD and an American Original Jazzmaster to the team, so the rack still has 4 electric guitars and 3 acoustics, with the lap steel tucked in alongside. The new amp is a Vox AC15C1.
I think my time on TDPRI has some involvement in the purchases of the Lap Steel, the Jazzmaster and the Vox!

I might be the poster boy for TDPRI induced GAS.

I found this place when I googled a question about guitars. At that time, I had one Strat, a couple amps, and one cheap acoustic. After seeing the build threads and group shots here, I got busy. Now, 6 Teles, 3 Strats, 1 LP, a Hagstrom electric, 8 amps, and 3 acoustics. I love every one of them, life is good.

I could open my own guitar store with the gear in my wife's walkin closet.

I had one guitar and amp for 20 years. Then I bought a Tokai Telecaster and found this place within days of that purchases. I have since bought 6 more guitars and 5 more amps. I still have that original guitar, but I'm down to two amps and 5 guitars. I also have a lot more pedals than I did before I found this place.

    I had a handful before I joined

I’ve since sold three and bought two, but the real difference is that thanks to the Tele Home Depot I’ve built 6...

6 before, a Fender Jazzmaster, 3 Gretsch guitars, an '82 G&L SC-1, and a Squier Bullet Strat (no Tele).

    25-30 since.

Under 20 now, including several builds in progress.

I'd like to get down to 10. El oh el.

TDPRI certainly didn't hurt, but I believe the Internet is the main force. 15 years ago it was hard to buy something like a White Falcon. Try getting a local shop to order you one back then to see if you liked it. With the Internet it's not that difficult. Last year I figured I need a strat. I bought 3 and kept the one I liked the best. The access we have today is truly incredible.

One (Clapton Strat) before, three (+ MIM Tele, + PRS SE Bernie Marsden) after, but I will not blame TDPRI for it.

I've actually bought far fewer guitars since joining TDPRI than my habits had been before.
Maybe I just already figured out what I like?
Or maybe I saw the errors of my ways played out here in tales of GAS?

TDPRI has informed some of my choices, but hasn’t changed the size of my fleet.

My comfort zone has remained pretty stable over the last 50-odd years:
    • One or two basses. Generally my main axe, and a number two.
    • One or two electric guitars.
    • One acoustic guitar.
    • Something weird- could be a project bass, a new (to me) type of instrument, or an amp building project.

    Amps follow a similar pattern:
    • Large and small-venue bass rigs.
    • One or two electric guitar amps.
    • Some sort of FRFR rig, preferably something that can do triple duty for bass, acoustic guitar, and modelling.

Well when I joined TDPRI, I only had a strat. So nowhere to go but up. Right now I have just one tele, but planning to build another. Five electrics in all, gonna cut one loose as soon as I make up my mind between two LP-types.

I have convinced myself that guitars costing $400 or less don't count....
