you could always move to a bigger place
Hey, are we not going to support one of our fellow TDPRIers here?
The answer is a definitive 9.
You have enough when she says “you have more guitars than I thought.”
Of course, this after she discovered that it’s not just the 25 or so that out on display. And that there are more in some of the cases and gig bags.
In all reality:
A solid body single coil electric
A solid body humbucker electric
A solid body P90 electric
A semi-hollow body electric (choose your pickup config)
A hollow body electric (choose your pickup config)
A single pickup electric (choose your pickup config)
A set neck electric
A bolt on neck electric
A neck thru body electric
A 6 string electric
A 7 string electric
A 12 string electric
A baritone electric
A 25.5 scale electric
A 24.75 scale electric
Any more than that and you're just being ridiculous and hoarding for the sake of hoarding.
I think my definitive answer to the OP’s question is...
Let’s see now:
3 acoustic, 1reg, 1 acoustic/electric, 1 resonator.
4 1911 pistols
5 full tool boxes
3 air cooled Volkswagens w/ extra parts.
2 great grandkids
And a partridge in a pear tree.
not bragging, just fact. I’d like another Strat or a Gretsch Electro Jet, Gibby Epi 339.
Too many irons in the fire right now.
Ha! When I was first dating Mrs. German, she would catch me looking at an attractive woman, and I would say “no, I was looking at that [car or motorcycle] over there.” She would tell me it’s no big deal, just admit that I was looking at an attractive woman. Years later, a light bulb went on over her head, and she said “oh my god, all those times you pretended you were looking at a car or motorcycle... you REALLY WERE looking at a car or motorcycle! What the heck is wrong with you?”
No idea, can I get back to you when I find out?
I've got 30 altogether, with an impulse buy that should arrive on Friday. So apparently the answer is 31.
Answer is subject to change without notice.
I just want one......after the other.
Why embarrassed? There’s a healthy enough Devo fan base here that we can overlook the non-Backlund, copy-cat Eastwood-ness
Oh wait, Cloud?
Speaking of artist model guitars, I want the David Bowie Supro for no good reason whatsoever. Just 'cause I love Bowie.
I have 25. Most are bottom feeder variety, partscasters, etc., but not all. I actually have more than i want, but they are all good, each in its own way, and my wife won't let me sell any.
I have to admit that while it would be nice to have a large collection as a professional I’d be paralysed by choice. So I have a couple of retired guitars, two teles and a gretsch. That’s enough for me. So far. (I’ve got a strat coming ...)
"How many electric guitars are too many?"
It's not possible to answer that question with a number. We all have different wants and needs, so who is to say if "X" is too many or "Y" is one too few.
My general thought would be that X+2 is too many. "X" being the number I have now. That leaves me free to run over to Sam Ash tomorrow and look around for my X+1.
(see how this works?)
The question of, "How many electric guitars are too many?" is irrational, and the answer is thus expressed an irrational number which never ends, so you might as well buy another.
Ask her how many she thinks is reasonable, and then have 3-4 more than that ... you know, just to keep things interesting
