went to four different stores in l.a. this weekend, not a single one in stock. Im very curious to know if these lean heavy, light, or are they inconsistent as we've come to know some other models?

I don't think you can generalize based on models. At least not on standard retail models. Custom Shop probably tend to be lighter.

I've had my hands on several, they ranged from very, very heavy (guessing in the 9 pound range) to fairly light - 6.5-7 pounds. If weight matters to you (it does to me) then don't buy one at a distance without getting the seller to weigh the guitar for you.

My 2013 Two Tone Sunburst is somewhere between 7.5 lbs and 7.9 lbs. I can't remember now. I know it's under 8lbs.

I'm trying not to obsess over weight, because I'm looking at LP's again. Those all seem to be in the 9 lb range. And we all know a heavy LP is a badge of honor.

I had my hands on a couple when they first came out and they felt very much on the light side. Much lighter than ant Classic 50 I've ever had hold of.

thanks guys. weight is VERY important to me... and so i think the advice is good not to buy one online. perhaps i could order from g.c. and check it out in-store before taking home.

thanks again

the ones ive tried were almost as light as my lightest tele which is just under 7lbs. so id say 7-7.5lbs

Sweetwater has one that is 7.5lbs right now, (it may be the sunburst one though) them or Daves list weights.

I've owned 3 of them, (still have 2), played several others back when nobody wanted them and they were all lightweights.

When the model was introduced my local GC got two of the Teles in, one was average weight, the other felt like it was made of concrete, made 70s Les Paul's seem light in comparison.

well... i finally found a store in l.a. that had one.. and i bought it. For a few years i steered clear of these guitars, because i had a general objection to beating up a new guitar simply for the aesthetics of it. What made me cave was that i wasn't finding the combination of price, finish, neck profile, radius, fret type in much of any other guitars.

well.. after playing it and actually holding it - i had to have it. And now i kinda "get" why the relic-ing has more than just aesthetic value. It has a significantly different touch - which i am liking so far.

It had some obvious flaws - The pickups - i will have to change those.. The neck.. i will have to get the frets cleaned up - they're like a freakin thorn bush on the sides of the neck. Otherwise though - it really has a great feel. The weight is pretty comfortable. I don't have a scale, but i guess it's weighing in in the high 6's or low 7s. Not too shabby. The relic job was not offensive to me. In fact - i hate to admit it, but it's kinda cool looking. And the feel of that sanded neck - oh my. i love it. I a/b'd this against an american custom shop that was priced in the 2k's. I figure some good pickups, and a fret leveling, and i've still got a nitro-finished tele for well under custom shop prices. Im not mad at that.

so - thanks for the input. Honestly - after hearing your responses wherein some suggested that the weight could vary, i decided to avoid buying online - and im glad i did. with a little tlc, this will be a keeper. thanks tdpri-ers.

My 1978 LP Pro Deluxe was a shoulder breaking 13 lbs. Best guitar that was ever stolen from me.

I remember the first one I had ever seen, at a GC, was the lightest Tele I had ever held.
A true featherweight.
I used that weight as a benchmark to compare to every one I have seen since, and they were all in the light/midweight class...but nowhere near that first one.

Congrats and glad it turned out OK.

I recently tried one of the newer, not-so-beat-up Road Worn Teles and it was wonderful. The neck felt like an old friend, it played like butter and weighed all of 6.5lbs. My only regret? I didn't buy it!!

Thanks,

The new body look is real cool.

Still not happy with the Scarlett Johansson Wear Pattern on the neck. I passed on a couple of these when MF was liquidating some in the summer of 2009, strictly 'cause of the wear pattern.

If someone wanted a crazy light one, the best place to look would be in the very first batch of blonde ones. The sunburst RWs were nowhere near as light, I found.

The only rival I've seen in the "Lightness Contest" is the Highway One Texas Tele. These where so consistently on the "nice and light" side but were not usually as shockingly light as some of the first blonde RWs were. I am sure FMIC was trying to do some opinion building when the first ones were like that.
