Going to be 6 months for me in 4 days!

I've had a 4 pack of my favorite brew and a bottle of premium bourbon handy just in case I had a "Break Glass In Case Of..." emergency moment.

NOPE! Not even a slight desire!

Good for you! You'll find there probably won't be an emergency...I haven't had one in years.

I thought you had been drinking because it is May not January. If you wanted to quit drinking congratulations. I actually had a drink yesterday for the first time in three months. I had surgery. Actually the three months was a nice break.

I quit so long ago I cannot remember when it was. I didn't mark the date, but 2 houses later...

I don't desire it anymore, but I really do like having money left in my pocket since I quit.

I'm guessing it was about 12 years ago.

I had an alcohol-free January and February. Now I'm trying not to drink for self-medication, but for me, anyway, there is nothing wrong with wine with a meal, and that I have been doing with pretty much every meal. Got to support the local winemakers!

I'm not sure when the last time was I drank. Definitely before March when everything shut down. I used to spend 3-6 nights a week in a bar, now I'll go out and have a couple beers with the guys once every few months. I don't have the desire to drink more than that, I love never being hungover and having a lot more money for gear.

I knew Sober October was a thing. Is “Alcohol Free January” part of a New Years resolution?

I have drunk/drank/drinked more in the last 10 weeks than at any since our early childless years late 90’s/early oughts.

of course “more” means 7-8 drinks a week as opposed to 2 or 3 a week during the last 20-some years.

    Whoa ! I’m on a bender !

The only alcohol free periods I have is when someone gives me a bottle of booze.

    Congrats!

I have more than 21 years-worth of sober months since August of 1998.

I will NEVER be critical of anyone who decides to go alcohol-free, but may I ask "why"? Was alcohol causing problems in your life or health? Because I've known several people for whom it did cause problems, I'm very cognizant of my behavior when I drink, and truly believe I control the alcohol, and not vice versa. I've mentioned before, I never drink and drive, or on a gig when I have to play and sing.
Anyway, did you feel booze was becoming a problem? BTW.....congratulations on exercising self-control. ;)

I manage a liquor store. For the past 2 months, our numbers have been up 60-100% weekly. Must not be going so well for a lot of folks.

    I found this interesting: https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/26/business/alcohol-sales-coronavirus-iwsr-report/index.html

People are buying lots of booze, but global alcohol sales are still tanking

So, the retail sales are NOT making up for what people would normally drink at bars, restaurants etc...

OK....sounds like the booze was calling the shots, and I respect and admire your choice to take control. I recognize that I'm blessed with a "physiology" that allows me to "turn it off" when I need to. A bottle of bourbon every three days PLUS 2 to 4 beers a night? YIKES! Good luck, man.....and stay strong. :):):)

    Thanks man! I got this!

If you check the other threads on this subject, you'll see that 4 beers and 1/3rd of a jug of hooch wouldn't last some of these guys an hour.

I’m a bit disappointed - I saw the words “free” and “alcohol” in the same sentence...
