If you've ever made a marriage proposal, how did you do it? Or if you have received one.

No judgements if you've been engaged/married any number of times for whatever reason.

I know it's different strokes for different folks - some like casual, some formal, some dramatic, some subtle etc. I'm just curious...

Privately both times. No need to make it a spectacle. Its something that involves serious thought between two individuals and hopefully supported by those that know and care about those two people. No need to have outsiders be part of it. My 2 cents.

Ring hidden inside a little decorative teapot my mother wanted me to give to my wife... did it like "oh I forgot... there's something else inside the teapot" ... she loved it

I decided the best way to surprise her was to surprise myself. So I knew I was going to, but did not know when or how.

We were on a nice walk in the park when I decided the time was right.

She started to laugh, because she thought I was kidding, but said she realized I wasn't because of the look of terror in my face.

That was 18 years ago. Still together. Still can't imagine being with anyone else

I did not propose in any of the 3 longterm legal marriages. Kicking and screaming I finally agreed. Maybe thats why they only lasted 15-20 years each.

Ah that's similar to my favourite pickup line "Does this rag smell like chloroform to you?"

I simply looked down the hole and said" after it rubs the lotion on its skin ,it puts the ring on its finger.....I Said, It rubs the lotion on its skin then puts the Ring on its finger"! 0c077d8cdedf13ed41e085ec1ccf57a5.jpg

    quite romantic I might say!

Whenever Mrs. Unixfish sees people propose on a jumbotron at a sporting event, she looks at me and says "If you did that to me, I would kill you!"

I put a file on a floppy drive for her work laptop way back when that was named something she would have to open out of curiosity. The proposal was in that file. I think it was a spreadsheet, but crikey, it was over 27 years ago.

Geeky, I know, but consider the source.

I don't remember. I might have hung the ring from the bedroom door.

I went to Caracas, Venezuela on Feb. 28, 1988. Met her at an outdoor cafe that night, she, with a girlfriend.

She hated my guts at first sight (who doesn't?), but after a few days of totally respectable getting to know her (a chaperone there the first two days!)...

I got down on my knee and proposed on March 5th at a wonderful nightclub at my hotel. After just a week.

We're still married, 28 years, and I'm still hiding guitar purchases from her.

We were going to my parents' house the next day, and I wanted us to be engaged before the trip so we could make wedding plans while we were there.

Also...I was pretty much broke when it came to any extra spending money. So, I just asked her in my apartment. Then we went to Olive Garden (that was a big splurge for us in those days).

We don't really do "big" ceremonies. Our entire wedding was 8 minutes long. That was almost 17 years ago...still going strong.

I told her that I wouldn't propose if I was going to get turned down, so she'd have to let me know it was all right. Several months later, she did. I certainly didn't pick the ring, as she'd be the one wearing it. So that happened after.

BTW, how many of you have made your own wedding ring?
