Honestly, to me it's the pickups and the hardware. They're the heart of a Telecaster, the things that make a Tele sound like a Tele.
I agree... especially the whole bridge pickup/bridge setup. That's tele-specific.

I worked with someone and when another employee asked if he was ignorant or apathetic, he said "I don't know and I don't care".
I'm pretty sure that was a Robin Williams comedy bit. That is brilliant. Hats off to that guy. I love snappy responses, and that's one of the best I've heard in a long time.
It's whatever Fender calls it.Offset “Teles”are cool.
But..It begs the question, is it a Tele because of body shape or electronics? There are HH pickups on a Tele body and it’s a Tele.
Teles guts on a Jazzmaster body and it’s a Tele.
Ultimately, it makes no difference to me....
I stayed up all night wondering where the sun went ..then it dawned on me.Sort of like the dyslexic insomniac agnostic: he'd lie awake all night, wondering if there really is a dog.

Jazzmaster body, Tele hardware. I always liked the Jazzmaster and Jag body shape, but the switches and roller controls always seemed to be in weird places, especially the ones below the strings that could be hit while strumming. Clearly, Leo never considered the possibility that people would play as hard as some do.Offset “Teles”are cool.

I want to build a guitar with Tele guts on an Explorer body, paint it red white and blue in the Buck Owens style with a maple board Tele neck and blue headstock face.
Sincerely.

Definitely could have been, but the guy at work said it around 1980- don't know when Williams said it but Larry was like a sponge- never knew where he absorbed things, never knew when they would be squeezed out.I'm pretty sure that was a Robin Williams comedy bit.
Really nice! Those in the know have always called them Jazzcasters! I put together one with Warmoth parts and gold foils. I bought this all Korina MIJ with P90’s from Wildwood. I also have 2 Talman. Guess I’m a offset kinda guy. View attachment 1082575 View attachment 1082576 View attachment 1082580 View attachment 1082585
Well you’re wrong.Honestly, to me it's the pickups and the hardware. They're the heart of a Telecaster, the things that make a Tele sound like a Tele.

I totally get that. Bridge and neck pup also define a Tele but for me the hard line in the sand is the body.
They didn’t say so they must be Fender Japan. They sound great! Mellow in the neck, snotty in the bridge.. just what I wanted.Really nice!
I have also seen references to a Telemaster- I haven't looked at guitars much in at last 5 years, but I was still going to a couple of local stores before COVID and I'm surprised I didn't see these, although the possibility that I did and just forgot is real. I would have thought they would have made more of an impression, considering how quickly I bit on this one.
Which P90s are in the Wildwood?
Now I know how a Trout feels when bait swims by.
You say "offset Telecaster", and my Parker P-36 says, "Hold my beer."

But in all seriousness, I would snap up an offset Tele in a heartbeat. Loved the ergonomics and neck on a Squier Jaguar, just couldn't bond with the brittle tone.
At the very least they are unique and don't copy someone else.I really think the Flys might be the ugliest guitars ever made. No offense lol
Ha! At one time I would have been in complete agreement with you. This one popped up on the local Craigslist and I found it intriguing. A friend actually bought it. I know he blows hot and cold on guitars, so I asked for first dibs if (when) he flipped. Six months later, he offered it to me--liked it, but just wasn't bonding with it. He had put GFS NeoVins in it, so it's noiseless. Combined with the piezo in the bridge, lots of tonal options. Nice rounded profile on the neck, not a toothpick like some Parkers. The ash body is sculpted and feather-light. So comfortable to play. It looks like a guitar Chuck Jones would have drawn for a 1950s Warner Brother cartoon, which appeals to my twisted tastes.I really think the Flys might be the ugliest guitars ever made. No offense lol
I beg to differ:I really think the Flys might be the ugliest guitars ever made. No offense lol
A Telecaster is like a very potent virus.Honestly, to me it's the pickups and the hardware. They're the heart of a Telecaster, the things that make a Tele sound like a Tele.
