Maybe Charlie's so sick of drums he doesn't keep any at home.

I did exactly this with a friend from church, for our Easter service. Our pastor wanted us and some other musicians to submit a video of us playing a song in our houses for the service. So I shot a video of myself playing the guitar to a song, then sent it to a friend of mine and she sang on her own video. I combined two together with a phone app that makes split screen videos. Abracadabra!

    What app did you use?

My assumption was that it wasn’t all live last night. I just don’t know anything about recording/editing audio/video, but I figured some of you guys would. It might be something I want to mess with, but I don’t know. Work has been super busy and stressful lately, so I’m not sure I’d have time (unless it’s super easy).

Thanks for all the input and suggestions. Stay safe.

Where did they get those two Keith Urban lookalikes? Those two looked just like him. If his wife hadn’t come out at the end, I wouldn’t have known which one was the real Keith Urban.

It's called Video Merge. The thing is that you have to use another app to edit the videos to make sure they both start at exactly the same time in the song.

Clearly not "live", unless someone off camera on keys & drums

The joke abt Charlie on air-drums was inserted bc Jimmy Miller actually drummed the original track.

Likely Mick cut the lead piece and Keef mimed the unplugged acoustic guitar w/ a little moaning now & then.
Ronnie probably got on next; it looked like he was actually playing.

    my .02

    Peace - Deeve

It's basically all Mick and Ronnie to a backing track of drums and the original choir.
Keith and Charlie aren't really doing anything.
Mick's recorded with professional equipment, Ronnie looks and sounds like my iPhone recordings.
Keith's picture looks like a good camera was used, but the guitar is inaudible.
Charlie doesn't play drums at home, I seem to remember him saying that in an interview for the Voodoo Lounge tour.
The choir sounds like the original to my ears.

How long have they been rehearsing that tune now???

Seems like The Police had similar issues all together in the same room for some of their early recordings, and had to be separated in isolation boots so they couldn't hear each other, play their parts, then listen to the mixed down playback to learn to play together.

They play to the same backing track where they are and the feeds of the four performances are then synched (mixed) into the feed delivered to the audience. Easily done in real time.

Mick and Ronnie sounded great and really performed the song. Good fun. Keith & Charlie might as well not have been there, the rest was a backing track. Also confirmed my theory that Mick is the best rhythm guitar player in the Stones.

I don't think there's anything weird about the drums.

O.k., that's a new product, but the one below has been around for more than 11 years.

If anything, the drums sound way off at times and I suspect it was done live and not mutitracked because of this. Sometimes the guitars sound off too.

    It wasn't live.
They record their parts separately, probably after a few takes.
The separate 'videos' are then compiled into a group performance.
Just like recording a song in a studio.
There was a whole orchestra playing 'together' on the news last week.

Trust a drummer to turn up without a kit!!!:lol::lol:

I disagree completely. They are accomplished musicians and should sound good.

Listened again and it sounds way off. The electric guitar sounds way off, not only the drums. Only in a few places does it sound on time.

Whatever they did last night, it was probably illegal, possibly sophomoric, presumably indecent, and definitely expensive.

And I really doubt it required software.

Regardless of who you are...I’m so over folks leaning into the screen and performing something lame out of sheer boredom. Not watched more than 15 seconds of any of it in past month.

It can be done; there are many apps out there but the fatal flaw in doing it really well is latency. If there is the slightest delay in any of the streams the timing goes haywire. I live in the country and our internet speed can be hit and miss. I’d screw our band up completely. We’ve talked about trying it. We use the google hangouts app to get together and talk and knucklehead around on Thursday’s when we’d normally practice. We’ve talked about jamming via a share app but we have two guys with excellent internet and 1 guy with good internet and me with sketchy internet. We may still try.

If you caught the Saturday Night Live episode a couple weeks ago where they all did skits from their homes, they had a four piece band (the drummer and sax player were together so there were three mics and video camera locations for the quartet) they did it and they did it well. They pulled off the opening theme song with 4 guys in 3 locations. I’m sure that the quality of internet in New York is better than it is here in Dumbledump WI. It can be done.
