How are amplifier dimensions measured?

Hi all!

I have an odd question.

How do I measure a guitar cab’s dimensions in inches?

The reason I am asking is because I am looking for an extension cab that has the same exact measurements as my Deluxe Reverb. I think I found it from Guitar Cabinet Direct.

My Problem: when I measure my Deluxe Reverb depth, I get 8.5”. But when I go online, it seems everyone is saying it is 9.5”. Kinda at a loss on where the 1 inch difference is coming from. I have used different measuring tapes and rulers. I believe I am off on all dimensions.

I must be measuring my amp wrong somehow. How are guitar cab dimensions measured? I am asking LxWxH. I start from zero inches.

So odd.

Are you measuring from the side, or the top, which is 1" shorter due to the slanted front chassis opening?

The top is less deep than the bottom. Measure the bottom on your Deluxe.

Oh my gosh! You are right! With regards to depth, I measured the middle part. It was 8.5” and the bottom is 9”!

Still missing .5” though. Where to find that now?

Update:

I found the missing .5”.

I used my iPhone’s measuring app and saw 9.5” at the bottom. So I took out my ruler again and realized the amp curves at the edges. I was missing the curves. So I turned the amp flat on it’s back and as you suggested, measure the bottom. Spot on!

Put your amp face in to a flat wall. Measure from the wall surface to the rear edge of your amp at the bottom. The odds are unless you are buying a custom reproduction of a Deluxe cabinet it won't be the same size exactly. It's going to have different tolex and grill cloth.

1/2" difference is nothing. Even if you sit your amp on top.

Did end up finding the correct measurements. What’s said online turned out to be spot on. Never had to measure amp dimensions before
