No matter how rich I was, I could never spend that much money on a guitar. I mean if money was no object I still couldn't do it. There have been a rash of very expensive second hand guitars (that's really all they are) posted lately, and I'm always amazed at the prices. It's just a guitar for Pete's sake. Who owned it before has no value to me, I'd still be the one playing the darned thing, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't sound any different. The guitar itself might just up and run off, after I got through giving it a run through.

My late friend Danny Thorpe let me use one of his (he had two) for a smoky bar gig, in 1985.
His only caveat to me was “Don’t drop it!”
It was worth about $2,000 at the time.
I didn’t drop it, and it played and sounded great.
Both of Danny's were very plain, like this one.
I’m really glad I got to experience one!
Now, like TD said, no matter how wealthy I was, I wouldn’t buy one.
I did own a very clean 1955 Les Paul gold top.
It had the stop & tuneamatic, and was very light.
Wish I’d hung onto it.
Doh!

I'd be terrified to be in the room with a guitar that expensive, but to each their own.

That would be part of the reason for me not wanting to own anything that expensive. I'm too clumsy, (a man's got to know his limitations). One time my wife, daughter and myself went to a store over at the coast that had nothing but expensive pottery. They both told me that I had to wait in the car, or at best walk around out on the sidewalk until they went in the store and looked around. They understand me all too well, I wouldn't mean to, but surely something would get broken as soon as I walked in the place.

The other thing is, I usually just don't like something because it's expensive. I've owned several Martins up to a D-28 Marquis. The one I have now is a MMV sold by Guitar Center, that I like about as well as most any of the Martins I've played save for a very few. My son and I put a pickup in it, and it's good enough for about anything I'd ever do.

Top’s a bit plain. Might be good for a glitter refin.

People think glitter is a trivial addition. Not so.

A buddy had a Strat, allegedly previously-owned by Ike Turner, that someone had rattle can refinished in white with a sprinkling of multi-colored glitter on the top while it was still wet.

Nothing says class and professionalism like glitter does.

If i could play $220,000 better with it......i still couldn't afford it.
A guitar that expensive with those good looks, there is something mystical about it, like it shouldn't be played by mere mortals.

i'd be willing to bet that almost any custom shop '59 is a better guitar. but of course when I say "better", that's a can of worms, "better" varies from player to player. but I have played some custom shop '59s and they were great to me and I can't imagine this could be any "better".
