Both the original and the Fender CS Andy Summers Tele have the "cracked" brass bridge plate which is intentionally set floating (leaving the gap made by the plate rising towards the neck). (explained in the video below at 4:13)

This sound effect can be produced more or less by your stock tele bridge plate as well, because the "imperfection" attributes to the structure of tele bridge plate itself and it could be a part of tele sound, you like or not.

Just listen to all those records with the tonez before everybody got smart enough to "improve" stuff.

I'm pretty sure Leo got it right the first time.

Didn't know there was such a contingent of tractor enthusiasts here.
I dont think the metaphor was that far off base.

I'm might suggest, that the Lamborghini firm has actually made more consistent profits, with their farm machines.

The car enterprise came to fruition, I think, because Mr. Lamborghini had some extra money to play with - from making tractors.

back to the OP's question. the fit and finish of my patent pending fender plates. I picked up the Fender Road worn purple. MIM.
I actually can't believe how awesome it sounds. I really like it a lot. I assumed I might change the TexMex pickups, However they seem quite excellent. But it seemed extra twangy on the attack and has slightly less sustain when I compared it acoustically to my fender customs shop, so less twangy and more sustain. so I started looking at the bridge plate, it does look like the bridge plates are a bit of a wildcard. it does look like they were made in 2 separate places with possibly the same specifications.
They' re supposed to be identical but they're not. I know lots of industries that hire separate CMO's to manufacture identical parts, and hope they're in specification.
what's the current strategy for sourcing steel plate by Fender music?

The road worn is reasonably well finished looks good. 0.045" thick.

the custom shop lots of unfinished stamp marks and cuts remain. 0.057" thickness.

I'm going to do an experiment I bought the gotoh vintage in tune plate arrives july 1, look likes 0.060" steel,???(anyone know that spec?) see what happens to the sharp twangy attack on the road wornwith a thicker steel plate.
