Well, I was watching a clip on the Epiphone site about Jack Casady's signature bass which showed a bit of Hot Tuna playing a show and I was taken by their sound.

So what songs and albums do you guys say I should check out, please teach me about them.

Their Burgers album is awesome. I'd give that a look.

He would have been playing his big Guild/Alembic bass back then.

If you want to hear their more electric albums, check out America's Choice and Koppkorv.

Keep in mind they are two things--acoustic and electric. Definitely give both forms a listen.

America’s Choice has some fantastic crazy guitar on it. Heavy fuzz and octave I think on a few tracks.

A big +1 on all of the above album suggestions. I think Rhino put out a compilation a loooong time ago, but don't know if it's still out there.

They have always been fast, loose, and fun:

One of my top ten favorite all time songs: Hot Tuna's version of, "Death Don't Have No Mercy".

My introduction to Hot Tuna when I was in college, it was my roommate's. I taped his LP because it went out of print and I spent years looking until it was re-released on disc. In the meantime I bought the rest, starting with Burgers, they're one of my favorite bands.

My sister got me the eponymous album in 1970, when I was 12, and it was instrumental in introducing me to acoustic blues. Then, when I was in HS, I got The Phosphorescent Rat and it blew my mind again.

I'm more enamored of their acoustic stuff, seems a bit more subtle. But yes I am a big Hot Tuna fan. Saw them last summer doing their electric and occasionally acoustic thing. Jorma Kaukonen has a "sound" for sure. You can also go camping in Ohio to take lessons from the man himself.

I've been a fan from the beginning back when Jorma and Jack would do a few tunes in the middle of Jefferson Airplane concerts.

BTW, the first album was recorded at the New Orleans House in Berkeley, not the Sweetwater. One of my then bandmates was there that night.

Another good one is Jorma's solo album "Quah."

"If you don't know Jorma, you don't know Jack!"

I was just a kid then, but my uncle always loved this tune and I've been a fan ever since:
    Casady looks so groovy here...

Finally got to see 'em open for Tedeschi Trucks Band in summer of '17. They were superb!
