I remember when I lived in southern florida and they would have
the crab migration across the road, from one mangrove swamp to the
next. Thousands.

Weird. Didnt want to squish them with tires..

The really big hordes of giant land crabs crossing A1A are going to the ocean to release their eggs. They do make it hard to drive lol.

Once we had a hurricane off our coast and we *evacuated* to the Keys because they were out of the line of fire. But the storm was close enough to trigger reactions in wildlife. We had a little cottage with a porch and said porch was covered in crabs seeking shelter. We had our lab along and it was hilarious watching him try to pick his way through the crabs to get out to do his business.

One thing I love about Washington, few pests. Minimal ticks compared with the NE, no tarantulas, only garter snakes in Western WA, no fire ants.
Twice in the last 20 years there has been a 'toad explosion' though. I live 1/2 mile from a lake. They hatched and there were literally millions of baby toads everywhere, every time I drove out our road I would squish hundreds of them. The ground was "alive"!
