Run to the hinterlands!

SAAAAAAVE yourselves!

These critters are all over the ground at night in rural western Texas.

Having lived there, it's just part of the experience. Same for scorpions.

I saw scorpions (in the house!) and a coral snake in San Antonio, TX, but I never encountered a tarantula (or widow spiders). One of my childhood classmates from CT found one in her closet on the outskirts of San Antonio.

I remember a motorcycle trip on a backroad in the Panhandle of Texas. Ran over more than a few as they were crossing the road. Worried one might fly up into me as I clipped it. Fairly common in that area.

When I lived in Arkansas around 2012, we had a surge of red tarantulas into our neighborhood. I would drive home from work and the roads were covered with tarantulas sunning themselves in the road who ran away as I drove toward them.

We had one tarantula get into our house late at night while we were watching TV, and our Jack Russell saw it and launched himself across the living room and killed it before we knew what was happening.

That said, with regard to the OP, all I can think of is Kingdom of the Spiders.

I respect arachnids for the role they play in nature, but I prefer them to do so out of my sight. I once came home to my grandparents house in Oklahoma, and there was a big tarantula between me and the door, sitting in the driveway. I killed it. With a 1973 Buick station wagon. My grandfather was rather surprised to come home and find that I had decided to hose down the driveway.

I used to drive a lot between the border and my town (east of there) and whenever I saw a plethora of tarantulas crossing the highway, east to west, I finally figured out that there was going to be a hell of a storm coming.
I still don't like em in my house though.

I remember when I lived in southern florida and they would have
the crab migration across the road, from one mangrove swamp to the
next. Thousands.

Weird. Didnt want to squish them with tires..

It’s all about the urticating hairs ! But most folks will never get that close for it to be an issue.

Like installing 100 batts of fiberglass insulation - nude .

I drove thru a herd of them back in the 70s. War Highway out to White Sands. The road was black with them...
