I haven't visited this forum for over half a year.
Just when I feel so sad and lonely and don't know what to look for,
I remember the people here, most of you are so warm and kind.
I was reading the thread about alcoholism. The comments are so encouraging!
There are still good people on Earth, caring for other people.
When you feel upset, you are the only one who suffers from the bad mood!
Still trying to figure out a way to make myself happy.

Yup. It's time for some good music.
Should I pick guitar or banjo?

I always wanted to try banjo or a mandolin. Grab whatever lets you take a break from the world and smile a lil!

Play both and play a lot. Music is a great gift that can take your mind off of things that bog you down. Welcome back to the forum.

Say what you will, but it is impossible to play sad music on the banjo.

Play the banjo, and people from miles around will hear those staccato cracks from your fingers rolling off thirty second notes, and stampede right through your front door, and you'll be lonely no more!

Sorry to hear you're down. Stick around. You'll get some smiles here. Guitar or banjo?...which ever one will get you playing or hanging with others quickest.

I vote for both, but if you can’t swing both get a guitar and learn to play in open G. Before I could afford a banjo I took a guitar I played in open G and learned all of my banjo rolls on it. Not exactly the same but I got my picking fingers working and learning patterns and the fretboard was familiar to my fretting hand.

Thanks for stopping by nightingale. I rarely suggest anyone play a banjo...but I think you should play banjo. I agree that there seems to be something inherently comedic about a banjo.

Yanno if ya have been a bit dark lately, ya might enjoy the current tread “Give us some songs that have a big dose of humor” by Stringbender. More than a few of those tunes are capable of inspiring a grin.
