My hometown of Ely, Cambridgeshire, UK has been used as a location for many films. Notably:

Elizabeth: The Golden Age
The Other Boleyn Girl
The Crown (Netfilx)
Macbeth
Jupiter Ascending
The King's Speech

There was also filming last year for about 2 weeks for a film starring Bradley Cooper. Apparently it is a film of the life story of Leonard Bernstein. The Ely scenes were a reconstruction of a concert that he conducted in Ely Cathedral in 1973. Local rumour has it that the film will be called 'Maestro' when it is released.

Disney’s “The Rookie” with Dennis Quaid had some scenes shot in my home town of San Angelo, TX.

Cleveland is my town now. Has been for almost 25 years. Loads of stuff has been, and still gets shot here. The list is miles long. We’re a hugely movie friendly city and it’s paid off for us big time.
Cool!
Mr. Quaid came into one of my haunts (Donn’s Depot) fairly often after the Jerry Lee Lewis inspired Great Balls Of Fire movie.
He sat in and did some Jerry Lee tunes.
Nice guy!
Here he is talking to TDPRI’s @bigbean at Donn’s, and with some old bass player guy.

Oh ya!! I forgot one. We grew up in very rural PA, as in nothing but woods, farms, and one 4 plex movie theater. Yep, in the middle of nowhere.

It was in 1981 that they shot a good part of the movie in and around our elementary school. My younger brother, then 16, was an extra but got cut during editing.

The movie? Knightriders. A movie no one ever saw because it's so bad!! Why is it bad? Well general plot sucks: Knights in armor riding around jousting each other while riding motorcycles. Knights, Dames, motorcycles. How could that ever duck you ask,? You can get a belly full of the movie in just 31 seconds of the official trailer. Oh ya, just in case you want a copy for yourself, it's available on Blu Ray for some reason.

I've got a couple. In 1993, they filmed Malice, with Alec Baldwin, Nicole Kidman, and Bill Pullman. The opening scene below was filmed in Northampton MA, and ends up on my front porch. I was renting half a duplex, which was once the home of Calvin Coolidge. There was a huge crew there all day. They dug out the existing landscape bushes and replaced them; after the filming, they dug up the new stuff and put everything back like it was. The porch shows up at 2:20 on this clip:

In 1998, we got a phone call, out of the blue, from "Dreamworks". I assumed it was a junk call and almost hung up, but she said, "Yes Dreamworks, Steven Spielberg's movie production company." OK. They had asked local Realtors if there were any houses in town situated in an old apple orchard, which ours was, and they wanted to see about filming there.

The film, (a stinker, it turned out) was "In Dreams", with Annette Bening, Robert Downey Jr, and Adian Quinn. The writer/director, Neil Jordan, showed up the next day, with his gorgeous daughter, to look around. The house wasn't "farmhouse-y" enough, but they asked about renting the house to live in during the filming. I called my lawyer, who pointed out that the windfall taxes would take 45% off the top, plus we would have to pay for a place to live when they were there, so I shot him a price of $20K per month. He offered a scheme where he would give us $35K cash, in a paper bag or something, for 3 months, LOL. I said no thanks on the tax fraud idea.

I thought that was the end of it, but a couple weeks later Annette Bening's PA called and asked if it was still available for 20K. Her and Warren Beatty and the kids stayed there, Mrs BB and I had a ball traveling around. One day, we got to ride to one of the sets with Ms Bening, and meet the other actors and snoop around the spooky farmhouse they were filming at. RD Jr was under house arrest for drugs, he was being kept locked up in his hotel room in Northampton. It was all fun, but I wish the movie was better.

Detroit has always been laughably portrayed in virtually every movie/show I've ever seen. I did spend my teens to adulthood growing up in Troy MI, a suburb of Detroit and also the hometown of the fictional band Stillwater in the movie Almost Famous 🤣

Not a movie, and dunno if it will ever be famous, but cool seeing the places we frequent show up in scenes.

The section of Planes, Trains and Automobiles (with Steve Martin and John Candy) where the car breaks down in the snow and lights on fire was filmed on Rt. 219 right outside my small rural Western NY hometown.

My friend was a location scout for Buffalo '66. She asked me what the seediest strip club was in Buffalo. One of the locations I suggested was not suitable so they adapted my second suggestion.

My hometown is Budapest.
I hate it when I discover it masquaraded as something else in movies.
Like when it was Buenos Aires in Evita. Or when they made it Berlin in Atomic Blonde. Or Beijing in The Martian. Or Moscow in Red Heat. And the list goes on...
But I love it, when Budapest is Budapest in the movies.
Like in Tinker, Taylor, Soldier, Spy.
Or in Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol.
Or in Gloomy Sunday – A Song of Love and Death.
Or in An American Rhapsody.

Jackie Chan's "Who Am I" (1998) was partly filmed in the city of Rotterdam, The Netherlands. In a certain scene he decends from a building where i had a temp job only a few years earlier. Also his crew rented the basement below a cinema to rehearse fight scenes and film some extra's, i worked in that cinema in '98. I was a citizen of Rotterdam from birth in '72 until moving out in 2012.

Toronto has been calling itself Hollywood North for a long time. Truth is it’s a pita when you have to deal with film crews when you’re just trying to get on with your day.

Cheers,
Geoff

Remember the horror flick Frankenfish?

It was a fictionalized account of the horrible terrible scary (tempest in a teapot, really) of the first discovery in the US of the northern snakehead, an invasive species. The fish were originally found in a small pond about two miles from my house*.

The film about it and all the panic and frenzy and cars exploding and stuff were not filmed here because it's just not that exciting a place to be.

*I had nothing to do with that, I swear.

Also from Pittsburgh, there's the Bruce Willis & Sarah Jessica Parker film " Striking Distance " and who can forget " Flashdance " shot when the steel mills were still pumping iron. Also a song title from the Iron City Houserockers...pumping iron sweatin' steel...

Silence Of the Lambs and lots more!

I think there's some kind of TV drivel set in Huntsville, AL now. "Housewives of" or something like that.

Also, a "Spacecamp" movie or two, since Spacecamp and the Space Museum are there.

I think some low budget stuff has been filmed around there too.

When I lived in Tuscaloosa, they filmed the Burt Reynolds flick "Hooper" there. I actually went to the extras call and my roomate got picked...never got on film though. I did pump gas into the camera helicopters though (I worked at the airport).

Spacecamp is in Huntsville?!? I didn't know that. I have family there. My great uncle worked at IBM & Redstone Arsenal for many, many years in the 60s 70s & 80s. I didn't realize at the time, when I saw him a lot, that IBM=NASA or I probably would've asked him alll about it. He's still alive thankfully, and still living in Huntsville.
