Manufacturers build some excellent extension cabs but, most of the time, you have to take whatever speakers they've selected for that cab build. When you build your own cab or order a custom built cab you can select from multiple speaker sizes, layout and brands / models of speakers utilized.

I'd like you to think about .... 1st .. the number of and size of speakers. The poll is for that. After making your poll choice I'd be very interested in the brand and model of speakers you would use. Celestion, Jensen, Eminence, etc. . Alnico or ceramic magnets. A mix of both? Specific models from your selected brands?

    1x12. Vintage 30.

That gets me what I like to hear with just about any head attached to it.

waiting on a head/cab custom build right now 2 x 6V6 and 2 x 12AX7 around 20 watts. Cab with 2 x 10" 1-Celestion Greenback and 1-Celestion Creamback. The shown speakers are two olds CTS that came out of a Kustom PA column used temporarily. It's a mini beast. IMG_1481.JPG

OTOH put my old SF Princeton into a Mojo Tone cab with a 1 x 12" baffle and it rocks, also had hooked it up to a 1 x 12" ext cab with a G12H-75 Creamback with the internal speaker and it was smoking.

The 2x12 is perfect. Mine is beat to crap and it's a converted 4x12. I love it! Preferred speakers are an Eminence GB128 and a Celestion Vintage 30. They compliment each other nicely!

I think 1x12" and 2x10" are the most practical. Next would be 2x12, which seems like as big as 98% of people will ever need to be. Especially with the efficiency of modern speakers.

Based on my understandng of the purpose of an "extension" cab, I believe a single 8Ω speaker is appropriate.
    1x10", 1x12" or 1x15".
My preference is 1x12" but I also have a small 1x10" cab (MusicMan).

The speaker should be able to handle anything you throw at it, a Jack of all Trades.
Wide range and balanced response, high efficiency and power handling.
My choice is ElectroVoice SRO12, EVM12S or EVM12L.

2x10, with two 8Ω speakers and some way to choose series (16Ω) or parallell (4ohm). A simple Palmer Cab Merger works for me.
Some SS amps only delievers full power at 4Ω and many tube amps can work with 16Ω.
Speakers depending on style of music.

2x12 with Greenbacks, 65 watt Creambacks, or Vintage 30s. Or maybe a Greenback and a V30 together.

Mojotone has a 2x10 Tremolux cab that you can get off-the-shelf. It's nice... If closed back works for you. Add 2 Webber speakers: The 50 Watt 10F150-T Ferromax 8ohm light dope (the Webber fav for a Princeton Reverb) sound good with an overdriven blackface Bassman or Bandmaster type head.

I just ordered a custom 2x12 from Sour Mash. It's a Marshall slant 2061cx clone. Lead times are 6 weeks out, so it will be a while before it get it.

I bought a pair of 16 ohm WGS Invader 50s to put in it (they're like a higher wattage greenback). The speakers arrived 2 days ago and I stuck them in two 1x12s to test them out and break them in while I wait for the cab.
