No firsthand experience nor knowledge in those.

I will say I find the other Selenium speakers well built, have accurate test specs and sound good. I think ultimately the response curve is thing likely to be the big variable (for a guitar player that is).

I did see somewhere that it is a lower efficiency unit (92db). Some of these high power 8" Selenium speakers tend to like a ported enclosure -- so keep that in mind too. When I built my cab for my 8pw3 I looked up the specs and factored in the tech stuff to build a small, closed back ported box for it. Later, I opened the back (half closed) and it didn't change the sound very much, but I think I use it half open now most all the time.

The high power/low efficiency speakers I think I am liking even more. They can span the low volume - high volume continuum very fluidly.

I will do some searching around to see what I can find out about them as time allows. I 'll try to post any valuable info back up here as I find it.
ok, I appreciate it. I've got a ported twin 8" cab that I'd like to increase volume with more efficient speakers, I'm not hard over on a FRFR. I know from experience that two speakers with the same "sensitivity 92 dB" can be of very noticeable different actual loudnesses. I'd like to re-speaker with a JBL, but don't want to spend the big bucks on this project, so the 8MGs look attractive at $65 each.

Right, sounds good. You might also give a look at the Selenium 8MB4P which is still available out there online for approx same cost.

Edit: one big difference with the 8MB4P is it's 97db rating.. in case that matters.
Also, it has an absolute peak at about 1.5kHz.. if you don't like that powerful a response in the mid-mids, you may not like that one

Also, I would recommend a scan of Parts Express especially the Dayton Audio 8" PA/woofer/midrange type speakers .

They have a few that are pretty similar in design, specs, construction, etc. and most are priced reasonably at about $35-$50.

Edit:
Here is one that might be worth a look:

Check out the PRV 8" options too. Some look like great guitar speakers. Reasonably priced too.
