Hey guys,

i have a Warmoth TELE that i pieced together (partscaster), the thing really rings and sounds AWESOME !

Only thing, the HIGH E string rings so DEAD, it's the action, or string height, and it's th 3rd E String i've tried. I've heard guys say that a DIRTY or IMPROPER STRING SLOT on the NUt will cause this !

Anybody have any ideas !?!?!?! PLEASE LET ME KNOW !

Thanks !

Are you using a string tree? If not it could be that there's not enough of a break angle over the nut. To test this you can pick the string with your right hand and push the string down *behind* the nut. If this removes the "dead" sound you have a few options: Wind the string around the post a bit more than usual to get the string to sit lower, install a string tree, or install staggered tuners.

Could be a case of "stratitis" wherein the pickups are too close to the string and the magnet is keeping the string from vibrating properly.

An improperly filed nut could also be the culprit.

Is the string dead sounding across the entire fretboard?

Holy CRAO man, thanks for all the ideas ! I'm sure one of these will work !

Ya know, it's pretty dead on 1-22. Does that narrow it down a little !?!?!

Sounding dead while fretted pretty much rules out the nut as the culprit. Meaning it is either stratitis, action set too low, not enough break angle over the saddle, or something wonky with the saddle.

It COULD be a sign of a fret board that needs a level/crown, but considering the rest of the strings are fine it is unlikely.

First I'd check pickup height as that's the easiest to adjust. From there I'd try raising the string's action. If it's not one of these two the problem is most likely hiding in the bridge in the form of a burr on the saddle or something.
