    I would give the neck some oil and do a full set up. Changing the colour is something you can do yourself. That finish they use is very hard, the best way to get it off is heat.

    I'm doing it all myself. Did the neck break or just the fretboard? I recently took my first fretboard off a neck with an iron and paintscraper, scary but it worked.
