    Hi everyone,

I bought myself a Highway One back in 2006 and proceeded to break my wrist a couple of months later mountain biking, ending my quest to re-learn how to play. Five years later the passion to play has finally returned along with some dexterity and no pain. Progress has been slow but nothing more practice can't fix.

Along with researching the best way to care for the finish I'm trying to figure out if this guitar is an older style H1 or the upgraded version. The neck appears to be an 05 and the guitar was assembled in 3/2006. I don't know if it has the super jumbo frets, hotter pickups, grease bucket circuit or a combination of an original neck & upgraded body.

I bought this guitar new at GC in 2006 along with a FM15DSP, Monster Cable cord, 2 extra strings and a cleaning kit all for $550 which I thought was a good deal at the time. I've only used the polish once and not only did it add a little shine to the finish, it left light very light marks in the finish. Any suggestions on how to get the finish back to its original dull satin finish?

I love the way this guitar plays and sounds, even unplugged [my 13.5 year old beagle likes it better unplugged].

This is a great forum, thanks for reading.

Welcome! It is the older version. The newer version has the 70's logo.

Thanks everyone. Kinda thought the neck was the older one but it wasn't built untill 3/06. Is there anyway to tell if the pickups are "upgraded".

    Welcome!
You could go on the Fender site and give them your serial number and request info. They're pretty good at quickly sending you back a whole specs sheet.
I did that recently with a 2009 American Standard Tele that I bought on Ebay. Within a day, I got back an email with the full specs.

Thanks Steve365, should of thought of that myself. Emailed them this morning and already received a reply. It's an original H1 with medium jumbo frets, 2 Standard Vintage Style Single-Coil Tele® Pickups with Alnico Magnets and Greasebucket Tone circuit.

I have an 05 Highway One, same logo, still has over wound alnico 3's. Best of both worlds, some vintage tone, some hots like the alnico 5's that are distortion friendly. That way they are a darker sounding tele without getting to muddy. Fender kept it in the middle of the spectrum for the highs. Thats one of the cool things about the h1's. If your tone knob does takes off the highs but does not change the lows, you have a greasebucket circut. I hope i explained that part right. Anyways Welcome!

My frets are not medium on my 05. They are way bigger than my other teles.
