Hi everyone - I've been reading TDPRI for as long as I can remember, so I figured it was finally time to take the plunge and join for real. I'm James and my first guitar, which I still have, is a 2001 MIM sunburst tele that I've modified a ton, and I'm going to modify even more shortly due to a ton of free time inside thanks to quarantine. I'm also currently looking for an AVRI, AO, or 70th Anniversary Broadcaster because I've got a thing for blackguards. I've always had at least one tele for as long as I've been playing guitar - love them!

    Here's everything I've currently got:

    2001 MIM Tele Sunburst
    2020 Gibson ES-335 Vintage burst
    20?? Vox AC15HW
2004 hand-built 5E3 deluxe clone (this one is a handful - more on this later)
    2019 Martin HD28

Over the years, I've had and sold:
    - Gretsch 6118 Anniversary
    - Fender AO 50s Tele
    - Fender American Pro Tele
    - Gibson Les Paul Jr. Lite
    - Gibson Flying V
    - Fender American Standard Strat
    - Martin DM
    - Martin 00-15M

Anyway, look forward to posting more, especially about the 5E3 I'm currently rehabbing. Thanks!

Oh - and why did you sell the American Professional? Just curious.

Thanks! I never liked the mismatched color of the neck and body- the body was that pumpkincaster blonde and the neck was really white. It played and felt great, but I superficially couldn’t get past the looks. It was probably the best playing neck of any guitar I’ve had except for the es-335.

Welcome! Feel free to add some pics so we can admire your beauties. :)

I'd say grab one of those 70th Ann. Broadcasters, I've tried a couple of them and they're solid. If I could have justified spending that amount on a guitar, I would've bought one.

I'm also curious as to why you sold the AO50s?

On that one, I bought it recently and had a moment of panic at the beginning of the covid scare. It was within the zZounds return window, so I sent it back to keep some liquidity on hand. I ended up selling the gretsch as well and buying the es-335 as one main electric for everything. I love the es-335, but I definitely miss the AO for the single coil sound. It sounded awesome through the vox. Now that things have settled a bit, I figured i could start allow myself to start shopping again.

Yeah man, I’ve had it since 2001 and it’s been through the ringer. I put a dimarzio super distortion in the bridge, then took that out and put in vintage noiseless pups, painted it with house paint, tore it up. Still plays great. I’m probably going to strip the poly off and refinish it in blonde nitro, install a bakelite pickguard, and throw some twisted teles or something in there - make it a blackguard on a budget.
