Does it ever end here. Only site I get this on. Have to close out to get anywhere. Don’t consider this crap a prize.

It’s caused by poor screening of ads by Google. I use an adblocker on my iPhone — though since they’ve had my $25 I don’t think they show me ads anymore, do they?? Or would I need to pay extra for that??

Google says they don't allow them and claim Chrome prevents them. But, allowing them to "accidentally" slip through means they make even more money.

Yup. Only occurs on mobile. It's a game! Woohoo. Your challenge is now to try to close out of the browser tab without going into the popup. First go out of the browser, go into settings and turn on airplane mode. Then go to tab view and delete the 'background' for the browser app. Then open up the browser and try to delete the browser window before the popup takes control! It's like a whack-a-mole.:mad: Then go clear the cache. Airplane mode makes it so that instance of the popup won't occur again. You're now free. Until a new one comes along.

And no, I don't care what anyone says here, this is NOT an end-user problem.

One potential culprit is that your DNS has been compromised. Use Google or OpenDNS servers and it should help.

    See my instructions here:

But the most important fix is one that the site owners seem reluctant to do, which is encrypting the site's traffic with a secure certificate.

I do believe I have had less of this since I changed my router a few months ago.

Had it on my iPad yesterday when looking at this forum. Never have it anywhere apart from on here. And all that Chinese spam.
The new owners need to get their act together.

No, I don’t think it’s anything to do with that. This is caused by adverts, which are being served by Google Ads or somebody like that. (My evidence for this is that turning on an Adblocker cures the problem for me. If I turn the adblocker off I can’t use the site for 10 minutes before I “win a prize”, with it on I have never seen one of these pop ups.)

Believe what you like, but DNS corruption can allow malicious sites to hijack unsecured/unencrypted traffic and inject their own code.

Changing your DNS servers takes 30 seconds. Try it and see if that helps. But cheap Chinese routers have been known to have security vulnerabilities, allowing for malware to be installed on the router itself.
