Hi all,, this is my first time on any forum,, im hoping somebody out there can help me with my new purchase,, I have been told my new tele has a usa body and a mexican neck,, i love the guitar and got her quite cheap,, just a few things i can,t work out,,, ie I have removed the neck and pick guard,, with this I have found 2 routered holes in the body,(( i can only find reports of 1 hole or three)) and also three is insulation tape to the pick up wiring,, which says the pick up has been changed..
I cant find a serial number on the body just some blue and yellow stickers under the pick guard with letters on them..
i have taken the serial numbers from the pots which date them to 1997 chicago telephone company but im not convinced the guitar is a usa body,, the finish to the body is weird and seems like 1 of the 3 parts that make up the body is back to front,, anyway thats enough info for a first timer,, ill post pictures and if anyone can help ill be made up.. cheers

With those holes it's likely a Mexi body. Whats this about the Chicago Telephone Co.?

I'm no expert, but i don't think I've ever seen a USA body so badly matched. Could just be the lighting, of course...

Any chance of a pic of the body with the pickguard removed?

I have heard reports of them being badly matched over the past few years,, but this is holograph like, when the guitar is tilted its the other side of the guitar that looks that shade,,, hard to explain,,, hardware seems to be genuine and he music shop i got it from were adamant it was a usa

Well you can tell it's a 3 piece body alright but that's the worst match of two pieces of wood I've ever seen on a Tele. It doesn't even look like they're of the same type. It certainly raises some questions.

I don't suppose it could be an MIM Nashville with the middle p'up removed and a new pick guard installed?

Those bridge saddles are sitting nicely, all neat and in a row. I think that is how the USA bodies with the Mexican necks were set up in the Tijuana factory. "International intonation" for that South of the Border sound. ;)

    Welcome

I'm making a wild guess here but I'm betting that Tele needs the intonation set properly. How does it sound?

That seam would bother the living poo out of me. I usually go for solid colored guitars so I know the seam is hidden lol unless I can look at a guitar with a trans finish and not see anything other wise I'll pass up on it. It's not that they are bad because they have it. It just really bothers me to the point I couldn't own one. I really hope this guitar is what you thought it was when you bought it :)
