I bought a Hofner shorty bass. When I bought it I did not know it had guitar tuning machines on it. I would like to replace those with bass tuning heads. The question is, is what brand and kind should I get. The shorty has a small head on it. I am a total newbie to this. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Hi Rignart - I did a little reading and it looks like even the strings on the HCT-SHB-BK-O are closer to guitar string gauges than bass strings, which is probably why they get away with guitar type tuning keys. Are you planning on converting it to handle a more standard bass string gauge? Because if not, you might get away just fine with the stock tuners and stock string gauge.
