Hi all, I recently scored an old peavey deuce 4x10 combo from a friend for a great price, that I have converted into a cab for my Germino Club 40 head. It is not only a perfect fit for the head size wise, but is also finger jointed pine with an open back. I had been planning for a while now on having a custom 4x10 cab exactly like this made to get me closer to tweed bassman territory, so this was perfect. Just need to put on a new basket weave grille and I’m set.

Anyways, at some point one of the speakers was replaced and I am having trouble identifying it. It looks pretty close to an old cts alnico 10 but with a different back. The og speakers in there are 16 ohms so I am assuming this one is too if that helps, and I am in Canada so it’s quite possibly some old Canadian speaker company oddity, it actually looks older than the other ones in there. I am probably going to replace all the speakers with a set of wgs vet 10’s (which I love) at some point anyways, but I am curious as to what is in there right now. Thanks in advance

It's a Rola (made in November of 1976?), identical to what Fender used to use in their amps.

That's a speaker manufactured by Rola in the 47th week of 1976.

At least if that bottom number is 2857647

Rola is an American..made in
USA…company. Rola USA established British Rola in the late ‘40s, iirc. British Rola purchased Celestion also in the late ‘40s…again, iirc about the date. This means that all of those ‘pre-Rola’ Celestions are in fact Rola Celestions. The “pre-Rola” descriptions came to be when the Celestion factory changed locations and the new labels had the Rola Co. info on them. Ooooh…like I said…some people play logos. Hey, maybe the composition of the paper for cone changed????
Since sometime in the late 1990s, Celestion has been owned and controlled by an international corporation based in Taiwan. Those Celestion logos must cost a LOT of money to make. Otherwise, the Made in China Celestions would be priced at 25-30% of their market price, in my estimation. As it is, MIC Celestions are still more expensive than Eminence speakers despite the higher labor cost that Eminence incurs by paying for USA labor. (8^0. Eminence speakers no longer carry a “Made in USA” declaration. Rather, there is an “Assembled in the USA” declaration. All of the components come from China, as I understand it.

Keep on keeping on!

nothing major there…just history. I once did a bit of research since I 2anted to know the ‘pre-Rola’ thing was. That is how I found
out about the British Rola connection to Rola USA.

This one is not a pre-Rola Celestion.
It's a pre-Celestion Rola. ;)

Well, now I had to do more research. It seems there is no such thing as a pre-Celestion Rola. The two companies were both founded in 1924….. Rola in Seattle, Washington and Celestion in Hampton Wick, which is/was a suburb of London, England.
