To resurrect my own thread, I am down to a few amps and need to take the plunge.

Options now are:

Dr z Carmen ghia with iron man attenuator

Mesa Fillmore 25 or 50

Cub 40r

Any opinions between these three?

Is the Cub 40R hardwired or USA Player? If it's the classic hardwired version, I'd do that in two seconds.

Either. Trying to find a reasonably priced hardwired one someone will ship has been a little difficult.

I have the USA Player Cub 15r (head, with a 1x12 Bad Cat cab) and I gigged it all over the place before the recent shutdown, great-sounding amp and 100% reliable so far. I wouldn't shy away from this version if the price was right -- my head was just under a grand, new. But resale will be better on the hand-wired version, I bet.

How versatile is the tone stack in the players series? That is the only concern I have fromhandwired.

Of those amps I haven't played any of the exact models but I do have a Mesa Rectoverb 10/25 and a Mesa Mark V 25 and I really like them both. So I'd lean towards the Fillmore options

well there's only treble & bass but both have a lot of range & make immediately noticeable differences when you move the knob. I generally use them pretty much at noon & control the sound of the amp with the preamp & boost switches, which make big immediate differences, and with the cut control. Master volume doesn't affect tone much, though -- the K-master is really, really good.

I think the narrowed-down list is well thought out. Any of those 3 would be a fine choice. As I see it, it’s just down to personal preferences at this point. In other words, I’m no help here (aside from saying it’s time to try them on for size)

Given your latest criteria, I'd recommend the Dr. Z Carmen Ghia. Handwired in the USA. Great tone.
