Yesterday I played alone and live and experienced strange bass response. The rig was:

    - Played with my fingers, clean songs

    - Avri jazzmaster, stock PU, middle position, volume 7, tone 6

    - catalinbread belle epoch, light slap back

    - roland blues cube hot, 5w, no bass, no mid, treb at noon, verb at noon.

The gig was in a large workshop. I had to cut bass and mid. My amp was a freaking boombox :S

First time I experienced that though I played many gigs with this rig :S what did I do wrong? Was it just the place?

Tone at 6 could have been part of it.
Kind of Dark to begin with.
Placement of your amp in a room like that can be part of the problem as well.

I hope everything else went ok for you.

Yep.. very likely the configuration of your amp in the room. Was your amp placed in or near a corner? If so, that can cause lower frequencies to build up and sound louder.

    Thanks for the answers!

The tone might have been an issue, true!
I remember that I turned it to 8 after a while.

The amp was on an elevated structure, no wall.

The gig went super well otherwise :)
