replacing a box type switch with a crl switch. It came without a diagram. I'm having trouble finding just a simple diagram. If you read the comments on the stew mac sight they sound wrong. Anyone with a straight forward link? Thanks

Thanks. This is my first time, obviously. Where do I attach the ground wire from bridge that comes off the volume pot? On the box switch it was soldered to frame of switch. Same thing again?

The ground wire from the bridge should be soldered to the back of the volume pot. If you're just changing the switch I don't see where that wire comes into play...

maybe the old box switch didn't have continuity to the control plate & it was grounded to the switch frame?

Yeah, the switch doesn't need its own ground wire.

I don't know. The ground from the volume pot is not connected. I have power and tone changes in all three positions but have a bad hum across all three positions. What do y'all think?

One lug of the volume pot is always grounded to the back of the volume pot. It's the part of the posted diagram where the word solder is. Did you do this?

It usually goes through a hole in the wood and gets squashed under the bridge plate to ground the bridge and strings. If you haven't removed your bridge or yanked the wire, it's probably still there.

I was getting a little frustrated so I decided to just put everything back together and get a fresh start tomorrow. I tested it after and it sounds perfect now?????? Here is how it was set up with the old switch. It's the black wire that is soldered to the frame of the old switch that is confusing me.

Where does the other end go? I can't trace it in the photo.

soldered to the volume pot. along with a black wire from bridge pickup and a black wire from the neck pickup. It matches the diagram above but instead of going off into space it was soldered to the old switch frame.

That's what I hoped. Your bridge ground is a separate wire. You don't need the one that's flappin' in the breeze, and you can cut it off if you like.

Thanks everyone. All seems good. Hum free and solid in all positions.
