Sorry OP but somebody wants to hijack your thread. I'm going to add my $0.02

This is an open forum and barring overstepping the rules, everyone has their right to their opinion.

If the OP doesn't like it, he/she can make a response if he/she chooses.

It's not anyone's "right" to criticize anyone else's comments just because they disagree.

Make your own comments and opinions and let others voice theirs, whatever that might be.

Surgical tubing for stands and wrist rockets. back in my day.

I had one exactly like your dad's. The lower part of the stand has a rotating/swing mechanism. If you miss the target, it rotates back around. It swings, too

I'm not good at writing technical things like this.

You're kinda talking out of both sides of your mouth here...

But then you say,
It's not anyone's "right" to criticize anyone else's comments just because they disagree.

Surely you see the logical inconsistency here.

And for what it's worth, I simply pointed out the rudeness involved in what was being said. The OP was clearly talking about stuff of his dad's that he loved. It was met with "that's crap. Just get a new one." It doesn't take much emotional maturity to see how inappropriate that is. But then again, maybe that's the problem...

The brown stuff started its life yellow surgical tubing. It gets nasty over time. If you're not worried about interactions with nitro finishes, that's the stuff.

Another route would be to put a suitable foam over the parts on the stand and sew up some covers out of yellow microfiber cloth to preserve the aesthetic.

I got some tubing from Lowe’s a few months back (to use for feeding the knobs on a 335 through from the f hole and pull them up through the right holes). It’s marketed as PVC clear vinyl tubing: I’m not sure if that’s good / safe for all finishes, but they had a whole bunch of different types / materials and sizes, so, they (or Home Depot) might have something that’d do the job and get you what you need?

Aw geez, it was your Dads. I get it. Look for clear vinyl tubing, available at home centers and restaurant supply houses. I think it’s a cool stand. Worth the effort.

Guys Guys!!! It's Christmas. Let us remember to charitable and kind to one another. Speak kindly, or in this case, type kind things.

Sometimes people need to fix things because its the "right" thing to do to ease their conscience, even if its not Pareto optimal(business speak for great idea)

I have one such project myself. I'm ADHD. if you read my posts you probably get that right away. My wife bought me a swivel barstool that I really loved. I left it outside because i needed it to stand on for something 4 years ago. I left it on the side of the house. Wife died of cancer. I'm beside myself.

Part of ADHD means that if I don't see it, I don't own it. I left that beloved chair out for 4 years in the Arizona sun. Destroyed the cover. I COULD reupholster it, or buy one for 65 bux at GC. same chair.

I'm an idiot, but object permanence is a real problem for me. That's why we are so messy. We NEED to see everything.

Next time I have the rubber go bad on a stand like that I will try some heat shrink tubing to replace it. I'm unsure if there will be the chemical reaction with the guitar finish though.
Now behave some of you, before this thread gets modshrinkwrapped.
