    Hello everybody

I have been offered as part of a trade a allegedly called 1973 Telecaster Deluxe.

Y really love that guitar and wish to have one since I tried one years ago. New reissues has nothing to do mostly because pickups... In my search I ended having an SG loaded with The Creamery Baby71 pickups witch I love but when you have the itch there's nothing you can do...

Well the original case is missing and I believe it has been refretted (witch IMO speaks good about the guitar... Has been played, so it sounds good).

Now... Seller says is a 1973 because of the serial number... Well he sent me some pics and I believe that maybe is a 1974 because the lack of notch...

I asked the seller, please, to pull out the strings and pull pick guard an made pics of everything. And do the same with the neck and make photos of the pocket, neck and everything...

    Here are some previous pics...

I like the guitar... But is in the opposite part of the country (I live in Spain), so I cannot play it before...

What do you think? I believe is legit (so far) and show some honest wear. For me the price is quite good, a bit expensive but is an expensive guitar...

Sorry if it's inappropriate, but what's the asking price? You say it's expensive.

    Of course is not inappropriate...

It's a trade... Plus money... We are talking about this guitar with original pickups and case, a 1991 Guild X-160 SB ...

    Plus 2500€

What do you think? Price is OK?

I don't know how trustworthy reverb price is on this but i think that 2500€ + the guitar which i'f i'm not mistaking must be around 1000 1500 euro's in value .. seeems a bit a ripoff.

there are some custom and deluxes available here that go from 2400 to 3000 circa.

the estimated price on reverb is 2000 2600 euro's, so I say it's not a fair deal if you ask to me.

    hope it helps

I have checked reverb, and eBay and European shops... Well... The problem with US prices is that you must add handling and sending plus import taxes that in Spain happen to be about 20% in total... So a 2000€ guitar in the USA turns to be a 2500€ guitar in your home in Spain...

For me is expensive as I said... Trying to low the price...

    same thing here ... but .. even a 2000 euro + taxes shipping etc ... would be better than 2500 + 1500 right ? ;)

I owned a 73-74 briefly. Paid $2600 Canadian. It was all original. At around the same time, there was a refretted 75 going for $2000 at a local vintage store. I bought the first guitar without playing it through a proper amp. Big mistake: it didn't sound half as good as the 75. So I sold it and kept my reissue (with custom Duncan pickups) that sounded better than the all original 73-74. Moral of the story? There is variation in the original Cunife WRHB pickups. I've also heard that they can become demagnetized, which can affect the sound (as with any pickup). It's a crap shoot in terms of whether YOU will like how they sound.

The price does sound high. I know things cost way more in Europe, but I wouldn't make that trade.

    Hope this helps. Good luck.

PS: I didn't like the neck on the vintage guitar either; preferred my reissue. Was another reason I sold the vintage tele.

I am trying to low the price...

The guitar sounds good. The guitar happens to have belonged to a "famous" band here in Spain and you can hear it in some records and it really sounds good.

Been preowned by a famous band is not a point for me as I don't like that band. But I can hear it sound good

    Sweet!
My first "real" guitar was a '71 Deluxe.
I had to sell it to pay bills.
    I still miss it.

I really love minihumbuckers. I am a Tele-man and don't feel comfortable with humbuckers...

Had many guitars with regular humbuckers and always swapped them... A Big box Guild I installed P-94, a Gibson SG with The Creamery Baby71 wide ranges... An old Goldtop I sold, a 335 with Filtertrons...

I traded my 74 Tele Deluxe to a Nashville Celeb 2010 day before I moved. He gave me a PRS Swamp Ash for it. I knew it was a loss, but I just wanted to trade it for a quality axe that played and that the Tele went to someone who KNEW and appreciated guitars, after owning it 25 years. I paid $300 cash for it 1984, it served me well, never stolen from me. Bridge pickup shorted out and it sat for 20 years.

1 year later he was so grateful he sent me an endorsement PRS SE Singlecut in the mail.

Then reintroduced it to me on stage, with backstage pass; prior to 12K show.

It's the Sandra Bernhardt of guitars. It's so ugly, it's beautiful.
