So, I picked this up in a trade yesterday. Crafted in Japan, double bound, maple neck with rosewood fretboard. Plays killer, thinking it is a 62 re-issue, but the stamp in the neck pocket does not match up to the research I have seen.

Checking the serial number on the Guitar Dater site says it is a 1994-1995, the guy I got it from says it is a 2005-2006, which does match if I choose Crafted in Japan on headstock on that site.

Any help with some ID from the experts would be much appreciated!

If that is an S prefix on the serial # I would say a 2006...but with Fender Japan, that's only a guess from some I have worked on.

It could be a partscaster from 2 different CIJ parts? I've seen a few CIJ/MIJ guitars that have been built from different genuine CIJ/MIJ parts and sold on Ebay.

I'd say you've got yourself a red one. I hope this helps.

I agree with Mellecaster: "Crafted in Japan" with S0 + 5 digits would indicate a 2006-2008 model. I own one with such a serial #, that I'm quite reasonably sure (according to Ishibashi, at the time) was made in 2006.

    Crafted in Japan
    N + 5 digits 1995 - 1996
    O0 + 5 digits 1997 - 2000
    P0 + 5 digits 1999 - 2002
    Q0 + 5 digits 2002 - 2004
    R0+ 5 digits 2004 -2006
    S0+ 5 digits 2006-2008
    T0+ 5 digits 2007-2008

Since 2007, FJ reintroduced 'MADE IN JAPAN' (not to be confused with the pre-"Crafted in Japan" ones)

Those should be Texas Specials as well. I had one of those - nice guitar.
