+1 on Larkin Poe
Great band, IMHO. Check this:
More blues than rock, Jimmie Vaughan has a new album out now.
Depends on what's "new" to you I suppose. There are many out of the mainstream blues artists, that could be enlightening. From Ana Popovic (complex) to Alabama shakes (simple).
I've tried to tell my local Blues Society that the genre needs to evolve. They promote and love 3 chords it seems. There's so much more complex and tasty types out there, Coco Montoya, Robben Ford to some of the newer people too.
Big Boy Bloater & The Limits
They're playing Glasgow 26th Oct.
3 chords? Fancy!
Check out Clutch. They throw in some bluesy riffs here and there.
How about old blues rock? Humble Pie...Jeff Beck Group...Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation...Butterfield Blues Band...Canned Heat... Fleetwood Mac...Rory Gallagher...
I second Black Pistol Fire as a great band, might be a stretch to say they're Blues-Rock.
Larken Poe are fantastic and Smantha Fish is Bada**.
This is probably not what you're looking for, but I've been digging Natural Child lately:
Plenty of Blues Rock influence, even though much of their stuff veers off that genre.
I just remembered I bought and downloaded Benton County Relic a few months a go. Thanks for the reminder!
I was gonna suggest Allman-Betts but got beat to it Devon and Duane have got it going on.
I’m getting an education on some new stuff here too - thanks for posting the question!
Second and third the mentions for Samantha Fish. Also check out the Danielle Nicole Band.
Dion Payton (career renewal), Chicago musician with Junior Wells, got a big record deal, had personal probs, is now playing again.
Quintus McCormick, Chicago guitarist on the Delmark label. Passed away recently. Was a student of mine at Columbia College Chicago (acoustics class, not blues!).
The current bands that scratch that itch for me (some of whom have already been mentioned): Tedeschi Trucks Band, Marcus King Band, Magpie Salute. I've been listening to that Jimmie Vaughan album a lot, love it. I'm going to have to check out some of the other suggestions.
