    Hey,
Looking for something for harder rock/metal/prog, etc.
What are your experiences, and suggestions for such a thing? I want something with either HH or HSH setup, prefered to have a trem but not 100% necessary.

    Thoughts have been:
Schecter PT Special Fastback b2 or wahtever it's called
    Chapman ML3 modern
Schecter Reaper 6 (I know, not a T style but looks cool)
    Chapman ML1 modern (see above)
    John 5 Squier Tele
    PRS custom 24 se
    PRS Zach Myers SE

I'm open to ideas, so what do you have?
here's some photos as we all love them:

Do you want it to sound metal AND look metal? Or does it just need to be capable of producing tones suitable for metal?

BC Rich Mockingbird is a solid choice too.
As a bonus, despite usually being labelled a 'metal' guitar, they are quite versatile and capable for many different styles of music. Downside is, like Les Pauls, they tend to be on the heavy side.

My son just put together an Ibanez RG2550z (an older one with the wizard neck) with some of those new Fishman active pickups. He said it gives him the "perfect" "death metal" tone.
He uses it with an Orange amp and a Boss metal Zone in the effects loop.
Apparently the fx loop interacts differently withe pedal.
Not my thing, but it plays and sounds good.

I play mostly classic rock, hard rock and pop styles with true single coils in strats and teles, but when I want/need to shred and chug, this scratches that itch perfectly for me and looks the part without being “pointy” ;). Schecter Damien 6 - string through Diamond Series model. Great metal guitar for a good price:

A friend of mine rescued mine from a demolition site - it was a wall decoration in some themed restaurant he was doing a full reno on, apparently.

Some people don’t like the JB for metal. Others love it. I’d put one in every guitar if I could. ‘59 in the neck.

My 'Metal' guitar is a Yamaha Revster RS420. It's a RAWK machine. I switched out the decent, if polite, pickups for a 498T/490R set. It's perfect for all my kerrang needs.

PRS custom 24 se will do it, but if this isint your primary music of choice, ie you just want to play metal every now and then I would get a used Jackson, or Charvell from the 80s. They are good guitars, especially the Charvells made in Japan.

I have a Jackson Stealth with a FR tremolo. It was made in Japan and I bought it new from the Jackson salesman in 1990. One of my favorite guitars.
