A handwired tube amp is what you need if you want your guitar to sound its best, the way a tube compresses the sound and pushes sound and with an open back 2x12 combination to fill every space in the room evenly also I've never had a tube blow on me since I've been playing tube amp, like swapping speakers you can change the sound of your amp by playing around by swapping tubes to change the values in your reverb, preamp, eq which is why a dumble amp is what you need

You are right about how a handwired tube amp pushes the sound of the guitar, but I have made my choice and bought a SS amp.
Will it sound like the amp you described? Most likely no. But it will sound like the tone I hear in my head and that's what really matters.
Thanks!

You are right, but I am a lazy guy and really don't want to deal with valves/tubes. Switch on and play, that's what I like at the moment.

That's all I've ever done with my tube amp. <shrug>. I literally wake up, get out of bed, and turn it on as I walk by. It's ready to play about 10 seconds after that.

What's there to deal with exactly?

Hi
I am looking to add something to my humble guitar family and would like to hear your opinion.

In the past months I have been selling quite a lot, and now I am left with three guitars and two amps.
The guitars are a Telecaster AV52, a Gibson J-45 Original 50s and the recently reissued Epiphone Riviera Noel Gallagher. So I have single coils, humbuckers and acoustic civered.

Amp wise I have a Fender Mustang I and a Vox Pathfinder 10 that I really like and find quite satisfying.

If I was forced to make a choice, I'd say that a good quality amp (I really liked the Fender Tone Master Deluxe Reverb I tried in the shop) would be the logic answer, but I am jonesing with the idea of adding a P90 equipped guitar (Gibson Les Paul Junior or Tele Noventa) or a Gretsch Electromatic with Fidelitrons, Filtertrons or whatever they are called pickups, just to add a new flavour to my sonic palette.

I have moved recently, I live in a very (very!) small village on the mountains so trying before buying is not really an option.

Some of you may have read the 4 pages long thread I started on the Strat talk forum, I have been trying to get convinced to buy a Strat but it really isn't a guitar for me.

So, amp or guitar?
Get a good tube amp, not a hybrid like a Tonemaster. A good amp is like a good guitar and unlike a run of the mill amp, you really bond with it. Contrary to what you may read on threads like this, tubes are reliable and last a long time. I have amps I've played for years and have never had to change out the original tubes.

It's just a state of mind: it makes no sense, I know, but having to change the tubes (whether every year or every 10 years doesn't make any difference to me) really bothers me.
It's just this.

And the weight.
And the fact that I really loved the tone of the Tone Master Deluxe Reverb I tried int the shop.

I have bought the Tone Master three days ago, and even if I agree with your statement, I am very happy with the tone of this amp and this is all that matters at the end.

Thanks!

I get there are many reasons one would choose something other than a tube amp. However, I don’t understand the ‘hassle’ of owning one.

Amp. I'd get something more versatile like a Katana or Catalyst. Tone Master would be too much of a one trick pony for me unless you really are happy with the range of tones from a Fender amp.

Considering you now live in a "very, very small" village, I would definitely go with the Tonemaster amp. The built in scaling will allow you to play it much more at home without offending the neighbors. If you do get a chance to play a gig out where you need the volume, you'll have all you need in 20lb package.

Post a picture of your new village for us please.

I think the amp is a great choice.

As to humbucker vs P90, I have a slight preference for a P90 for overdriven rock. The only reason that I can articulate is that there’s something about the texture of the crunchy sounds.

In reality, the way I play (overdriven Marshall sounds) I can go with either. I think that the differences come out a bit more when played clean, but I’ll let someone else get into that.

I’d like to second Telepraise’s motion for pics of your village!

You have some good sonic bases covered, I'd go with a nice amp of some sort. Or some pedals. I feel like your guitars are sorted (I know the feeling of always wanting another!), so maybe expand your tonal options with other forms of gear.

But then, I'm a KISS kinda guy when it comes to amps and effects.

Before you do anything else, check out the Epipone ES-339 P90 Pro. That may make your decision a little easier. Second choice would be the TM. I have the TMTR and can't recommend it enough.

I'd say amp hands down.

Thanks all you guys for your advices.

I have finally settled with the amp, I've git a TM Deluxe Reverb and I couldn't be more satisfied. I really love the tone it is capable of, this is the I hear in my head and that's the most important I'd say.

Thinking of getting a guitar also (P90) but I have started GASing for a Strat too, so I will take some time before making any decision.
