I have a glitchy Boss pedal and I believe it is the selector switch which needs replacing.
Photos are attached. I only see B50K which is pretty generic, and I see a "70"? on the other side.

This is a selector switch with 7 steps.

Appreciate any help in the right direction to source a replacement. It's a newer Boss phaser with SMD board.

Is it a regular pot or a rotary encoder ? i.e. does it have a 'stop' at each end of travel or does it just turn and turn....?

It has 7 steps or detents. I don't know what that would be called. If I knew the technical term, I may be able to source it from a parts supplier.

Thanks for any info!

Try Small Bear, he has some Boss replacement parts. If you can't find it, call Boss's parts division, they will ship you the exact replacement.
I found out that some Boss pots are not common stock, they are proprietary, made just for them. I tried to find one 9mm pot for an old DS1 at parts places, it doesn't seem to exist except at Boss.

9mm, 7 position rotary switch, D-shaft, PCB

Some label them as rotary pot or rotary encoder (switch)

How do you know the switch/pot is failing and not some components which it connects to?

Maybe I'm just ignorant on some specifics ... but that doesn't look like an SMD board to me, it all looks through hole?

Actually I don't but it is my best guess. Here is what is going on:

The pedal has 7 settings, basically time increments like a delay. The top 5 settings work fine, the last 2 settings only work intermittently. Mostly not, but they come in and out randomly like a short. It does it even if I don't touch the pedal.
Unfortunately the board is SMD so I can't troubleshoot it visually. I don't see any obvious problems.

I've seen it mentioned that others have experienced the similar problem, but I didn't see any solutions.
Here's another person with the same issue:

I have found the potentiometer but it is in Australia: (link removed). I'm trying to track down the part here in the U.S.

Have you tried cleaning the switch?

I sprayed the knob with contact cleaner but because it is sealed, I have no way of knowing if the cleaner got in there. There is a possibility that the resisting material on the knob also has worn away.

---

I did get a response from Roland:

“Unfortunately we cannot sell internal parts to consumers because of our worldwide policy, you'll have to go an authorized service center to get the potentiometer serviced for your pedal. If you'd like me to proceed, I can place an order for the knob that you need. Apologies for the inconvenience.”
This, of course, is unhelpful but I wanted the service rep to clarify what “If you'd like me to proceed, I can place an order for the knob that you need.” meant.

Roland will only sell me knobs and external supplies but not a potentiometer. I have emailed Small Bear to see if they'll help. If not, I'll try a local authorized repair shop to see what they can do.
