Howdy ya'll....

I've been an Oracle Database Administrator for like 30 years. What a ride, and my how things have changed lately. Tough to keep up with the new technology.

Well I'm now less than 10 years from retirement, and I really don't want to learn anything new anymore. But I started a new DBA job back in December... which is migrating all of their databases to the cloud. And they want us DBAs to get Amazon Web Service Certifications.

Anybody here have any AWS Certs? Which ones did you get? And how best to prepare?

The company really doesn't care which certs we get, as long as we get at least one. Suggestions appreciated for an old IT guy who'd rather be out camping than studying.. but alas.

My mom's basement.
According to what you posted go for the entry level to comply but advanced certification is likely better job security. About all else I could offer is knowing a friend who got the Solutions Architect cert didn't talk like it was the same challenges for his CISSP and Cisco certifications. Good luck!

Yep, do the foundational 'Cloud Practioner' first. I did it a few years ago, I don't remember it being tricky.

Then a Database Specialist one, I guess?

I'm supposed to do some more at some point, but I think I'll probably retire before I get chance

There are a ton of guides and examples all over the interwebs.

Thank you! I was thinking the same thing. I think I'll get Cloud Practitioner first and hopefully that will be enough. If the company keeps pressing for more, then I'll try for the Database Specialist one.

Time to start studying oh well... I am fortunate to have a good job especially in these days and at my age.

Holy crap. To me an oracle dba admin is a god already.

More..like certain server folks too, probably have to keep updating
dont get me going on that dang cloud..I am an old mainframe guy.

I am or was a lowly TNS odbc kind of guy who relied on you guys.
Data miner. I almost got into ISACA CISA certifications..that is way too much.

I got the Cloud Practitioner cert and it was not all that difficult.

I think most of the other AWS certificates, if not all, require this one. I only got that first one though. Now I changed jobs and my new place uses Azure, so I am about to start over :(

Hang in there and best of luck to ya.
