Hi folks. Just joined from Scotland after spending an enjoyable few hours browsing all the good threads. This is a bit of an intro and a plea for advice rolled into one, I suppose.
I bought a new JB signature in London's Denmark Street back in 1990. It was reduced due to the fact that it has a weird discoloration/rippling around the edge of the front side. No idea what caused it. Probably sat in the shop window for too long! It has always played fine and I've had it checked out. No issues at all.
If I'm being completely honest, I came into some money at the time and bought it because I loved the Tele shape (from the cover of Born to Run!) and sound, (from listening to country music), rather than on the basis of how it played and its features. As a result, I haven't played it much at all over the years as it always seemed easier to pick up my acoustic. (Literally, too, as the Tele weighs in at over 4kg, or 8.8lbs, according to my trusty bathroom scales!) It also has quite a chunky neck, I think, which is not great for my square and stumpy hands.
I also loaned the guitar about 10/15 years ago to the son of my wife's colleague who had a few issues. ( The boy, not my wife's colleague
). Anyway, annoyingly, it came back to me with a bit of a chunk out the body!
Having been little-used, it's actually in really excellent condition - apart from the discolouration/wrinkling and the chunk out of it!
I'd be interested to hear what you guys would do with it. Should I try to get the body repaired/ repainted, or would that ruin it? I'm happy to keep it and pass it on to my daughter who also plays guitar, but am tempted to sell it for two reasons: a) it weighs a ton and I have a dodgy back and neck b) a more traditional Tele appeals tbh. I'm a pretty average guitarist who doesn't need the versatility of the 3 pickups and 5-way switch. (It doesn't have the S1 switch, btw. I guess that must have been added to later models.)
Either way, I hope you'll agree, she's still a thing of some beauty in pearl white! Cheers!
