I've been playing classical music for a while. Many moons ago, had some roomates in a band. Guitar player had a Les Paul and a Thinline Telecaster. I'm currently shopping for a Telecaster. Not 100% certain why, I think I like the versatility. I'm here looking for advice and opinions.

The great thing about the telecaster is that there is one for every budget and one of every conceivable variety of pickups, scale lengths, woods, etc... Those two things might not always intersect, but if you're a little flexible you'll find something damned close to what you want at a good price.

Glad you found us. I would also consider a G&L ASAT. They make a great Tele.

Generally, I like the looks. What do you think about the change in the bridge? The strings go in before the mounting screws vs after. Too small a difference to tell? And, how different are the V-Mod II pickups? Realizing I'll have to go play one to see, but I'd like your opinion.

Another welcome from Ft Worth....and my grandson starts a new job next week in Austin.
When you say you've been playing classical music for a while, do you mean "classical guitar"? If so, you may have a bit of adjustment switching to a skinny Telecaster neck. If possible, visit some music stores, (Austin's got a couple) and see what feels comfortable. If you buy used, you should be able to find something nice for $300-800, easily. Good luck, and remember to post pictures here when you find it! ;)

Welcome from Albuquerque. :DWhy buy a Tele? Because Leo got the first one right. 70 years later with a million Teles made, buyers still hold this plank of wood in reverence.

Hello from an island in the Pacific! To answer the question “why a tele?” I will point out that the only classical piece I have ever tried to learn is some Bach Prelude or other that my Telecaster-playing teacher in Colorado gave me the tab for. Never learned it, but it sounded amazing played on a Telecaster when he did it.

We have lots of opinions. You may need to narrow it down a bit or we will turn on the "opinion firehose". :D

    Welcome.
