Hello, My Tele People!

I just turned 50 and I'm pretty excited to be starting my first ever guitar build.

I own a Korean made Les Paul copy (since 1988?), a Godin Session (Strat), a Gretsch Streamliner Jr., a Guild acoustic, a Martin D15 and an Oma (Taiwan) acoustic.

I'm in open-book mode right now, just trying to understand the scope of what I need to learn. I recently discovered a local wood supplier and I purchased by blanks last weekend. African mahogany body, walnut neck, red marblewood fretboard and a couple of MDF templates.

I'm really looking forward to this... like nothing I've ever done.

Cheers,
Rod

Welcome to the forum. What's the basic idea for your first built? Tele shape or something else? Finishes? Maybe could be ideas?

Welcome! Are you going to build a tele shaped guitar? They are considered to be one of the easier builds.

I want to do a tele for the first build because 1) I don't own one and 2) the entire internet says it's the simplest shape and therefore perfect for a first-timer. I want to see the wood so no opaque finishes and I've seen a silver-y coloured grain filler that I liked the look of. And I'd also like to integrate some kind of word burning/branding feature but the idea is not very well-formed yet.

I left the wood shop (Exotic Woods in Burlington, by the way) without a top and I'm debating going back to see if something jumps out at me. It might be best to keep it simple for build #1 but we'll see what happens.

The plan today is to take a trip over to Staples to get some templates printed.
