Hi and greetings from Germany. I don`t play a real pedalsteel but I have converted a lapsteel to a console-steelguitar.It has 2 palmbenders.So if you are lucky owning a real pedalsteel, I personally would begin to practice the use of the a/b-pedals which change the pitch of the g# and b-string to a and c# and give you the basic pedal-steel sound.Thats what I did with the palmbenders. I use the nashville tuning,but I only have 6 strings, so I only use a part of that tuning (E9).

Hi from the UK. You’ve done well in opting to get advice rather than simply dive in in pedal steel. Wish I’d done the same. I bought one on line after a couple of JDs, just to give it a go.
Never really got into it but, luckily, Mrs Wrighty did better. It’s not been wasted and I’ve got several nice jumpers.
