Mail order only promotional records that were released by Warner Brothers Records were usually a pretty good bargain for a dollar.

when they gave Jethro Tull a grammy for best hard rock\ heavy metal album over Metallica I then realized long ago naming music genres doesnt mean anything to the common man

My favourite aspect of this is that out of all the Led Zep tracks they *could* have picked for a heavy metal album, they went for the cod reggae number...

I suppose if you consider Magic Dick's harmonica to be made of metal, J Geils would count....

Just typical release of a label milking their catalog. Album of the month fodder. A record that well-meaning relatives could buy for that teenager who was always banging on a guitar.

In 1968, Iron Butterfly released their first album, "Heavy".

Led Zeppelin, Iron Butterfly. Heavy metals. thallium? anyone? anyone? It wasn't exactly a leap of imagination, whoever "coined" the term. There were bands who wanted to go harder than hard rock. Genre definition wasn't as highly defined a science as it is now. the release of the Heavy Metal effect pedal was yet to come.
