I just came across this article where he's talking about the new tour with Howard Stern and during it, Sammy throws out the offer to David Lee Roth and Alex Van Halen to join the tour so they can properly pay homage to the band.

That's wicked cool!

And the rest of the band includes Michael Anthony, Jason Bonham, and Joe Satriani.

I'm not a huge fan but I'd go see this show.

That's very cool.

I have never researched it, but I never understood where things went so wrong between Sammy and Mike and all the rest. Sure, DLR is bonkers, but that didn't seem like the problem to me.

It's too bad they couldn't put together a combined VH tour with everybody while EVH was still around.

IIRC, when Roth and Hagar did the "Sam and Dave" tour, Dave had absolutely nothing to say to Sammy for the entire tour. If Sammy intends to have a good time on this adventure, then maybe he's factoring that in.

Hagar was awful in his prime. No way would I go near this.
I guess that would depend what you mean by "in his prime". His 80s stuff was not that great, save a few songs.

His 70s material was his best by far, at least musically, not really lyrically.

I liked the first Chickenfoot album quite a bit; I would not have thought up that band lineup but to me they seemed to work well together, and Sammy seemed like he was singing well too.

Montrose, solo, or van hagar, take your pick. My opinion of him doesn't change.

This was clearly his best work:

The songs were better before 5150.

Almost everyone on the planet could agree on that .

I think Eddie’s guitar tones were better before 5150 , but - tone is subjective and very few active working musicians left the 80’s unscathed/unaffected by horrid effects/production.

Myself ? Would have rather had Sammy as the singer all the way through.

He was a much, much better singer and, if I’m looking for a Broadway/Vegas song and dance man - I’ll go to Broadway or Las Vegas.

And remember - Eddie was overjoyed when Sammy joined the band. He was Eddie’s pick. That’s good enough for me.

Similarly, I’ve never been a huge Alex VanHalen fan - never liked his sense of time/where he put the beat - but to Eddie he was the most important member and Eddie played off of him. That’s good enough for me.

From my insta feed, woof. This is uh, not good enough

Quoting my own post in case anyone wants the lyrics; I thought “surely he didn’t just sing *that*.” Welp he did. Sammy is 76, but the songs are still written for and from the mind of a 13 year old boy. Embarrassing.

“U.S. prime, grade A stamped guaranteed
Just grease it up and turn on the heat
You're gonna throw it down and roll it over once maybe twice
Then chow down down down down

When it's good enough, good enough to huh!
I can't get enough, I can't get enough
She's good enough to huh!

Hey me I working up an appetite
Seems like the harder I work the more my body needs
I like to open up with a little six on the half shell
Then it's 3-6-9 times”

I am not a big Sammy fan, but appreciate the fact that he and Mike are going to go out and try to do a bit of a tribute to Eddie when it’s so clear that Alex Van Halen cannot get it together to put something proper together. It’s a real shame that all the drama and nonsense that was always a part of VH stands in the way of people coming together to pay respect to Eddie and the impact he had on guitar.

I certainly understand how it could be viewed as Sammy trying to make a buck in lieu of a more substantial tribute, but nobody else is stepping into that void. If Dave were to join for a few dates or a few songs, that would be nice. It’s just a very, very dysfunctional band and even the most casual Van Halen fan knows that those boys just weren’t right in the head.

Twice I have seen the Red Rocker.
Once before and once with VH.
Very Talented Man.
He has a good Band with or, with out DLR.

I've seen DLR too. He had Steve Via playing guitar at that time.
Great show.

You sound like you need more protein in your life...

You're flying too close to the danger zone, bro. Get some of that protein between your ears.
