I tune to the piano. When that has a clip on tuner, I'll put one on the guitar.
Tumbling Dice...capo 4th fret.
Band I was in, for no apparent reason, started to wear hats, any hats. Bowler, Stetson, diver’s helmet.........alright, never got to that, but went through a fair few. One club we did regularly had punters brining them in for us.
Headstock tuners look stupid if you leave them on all the time.
I tune and then remove the tuner and put it on the amp or other convenient horizontal surface.
It's no more stupid looking than staring at your pedal board while you tune.
Rick Beato and friends riffing on the OP's topic, along with a few other pet peeves.
A good listen.
I don't care what anyone thinks of my headstock tuner, my music stand, or my iPad. All of them serve a specific purpose, & I become difficult to work with if I don't have them.
A pedal tuner doesn't make the guitar look stupid, though.
Installed the D'Addario Screw-On Micro Clip Free Tuner on my telecaster. Here's Front, Back and Down the Neck views. You can adjust the viewing angle as required and then move it back into the hidden position (well almost hidden; at some angles it will be visible to the audience).
I like it more than the Fender Clip-On I had been using. It's easy to install and tuning is very good (compared to my Peterson Strobe Tuner). Best price was Amazon Prime at $14.74 before tax.
